Emotion bubbled up in my throat, and a tear escaped my eye.

“Darlin’, what’s the matter?” Vegas wiped the wetness off my face. I hated how he treated me tenderly after drugging me last week and feeding me to wolves.

“I’m just so happy. But you know what would make me happier?”

“What?”

“If I never had to worry about RJ again.”

“Stick with me, and I’ll make all your dreams come true.”

“How? Isn’t he going to be president?”

“Yes. Just let me, your old man, worry about your ex. Okay?”

“Okay.” Why did I feel like the Knight’s Legion MC killing Rocky was the least of my worries?

As much as I hated Rocky for destroying me, I didn’t want him dead. I didn’t know what I wanted, or maybe I did but I was in denial. Either way, I didn’t want Vegas or anyone else killing him.

If Rocky was to die for his sins, it should be at the hand of who he’d hurt most—me. And I could never kill the only man I had ever loved, no matter how much I hated him.

Just wait until he hears you’re marrying Vegas. He’ll have a coronary.

Only if he still cares about me.

Storm slammed his fist on the table. “RJ could be in Minnesota, and we have no fuckin’ idea what he looks like!”

I winced, feeling like a failure. No matter how I’d tried to get Ella to show me an image of RJ over the years, she wouldn’t. She’d divert the conversation or flat out tell meno. Her loyalty to him had remained a little intact.

“Guess we’re going on lockdown,” Boxer said.

“We knew it was coming,” Hero replied. “The old ladies have been preparing for it.”

“The kids are going to freak out. They haven’t been stuck on the compound since they were babies.” Dodge drummed his fingers on the table. “I should’ve bought that damn BB gun Dante wanted for his birthday at the end of the month.”

“Didn’t Emilee say he couldn’t get one until he turned ten?” Lynx asked. “He’s only turning seven.”

“Enough!” Storm roared. “Order the gun online. Problem solved.”

The room fell silent. All eyes were locked on Prez. He’d calmed over the years and rarely had outbursts. Fatherhood and growing older had changed him for the better. This situation with his half brother, RJ, had been stressful, and not knowing what to expect had made him extra cautious and protective of the club.

“Listen, I don’t want to overreact. RJ might not be in Minnesota. No lockdown yet.” Storm relaxed in his seat at the head of the long table.

“Can we get Ella and Rockson out of Scornrock? She’s still in love with RJ and shouldn’t be subjected to sleeping with Vegas or pretending to be engaged to him.” I shuddered inside. The guy was old enough to be her dad.

“We can’t do shit about that,” Landon said.

My gaze flitted around the room of bikers. Not one of them appeared concerned for Ella.

“Grizzly is right,” Storm said. “We can’t do shit to help Ella if RJ is coming for us.”

When Ella found out the truth about Landon and me, she’d hate us. We’d treated her like family because she was, in a roundabout way. She was the mother of Storm’s nephew, and family meant everything to Storm.

I recalled the first time I’d seen Rockson and how his platinum-gray eyes had jumped out at me. They were a Knight family trait, but I had no proof he was RJ’s. It had taken Ella over a year before she had confided in me about Rockson’s father and confirmed my suspicions. After I passed the information on to Storm, it motivated him more than before to find his missing brother and try to fix what their father had broken.
