The attack on Storm’s father’s clubhouse had devastated his family and chaos had ensued. Several had been injured, and innocent people had been killed. Storm’s youngest sister, Megan, was one of them. It’d been her eighteenth birthday, and she hadn’t made it out before the first explosion hit.

Shortly after, Storm’s dad, David, confessed to knowing he’d had another son with one of his former club girls, Shannon Jones. It had been drunken sex after a fight he’d had with Jane, his wife. Jane had found out and made David choose between her and the club girl. He had immediately tossed Shannon out of the club. Years later, Shannon had gone to David’s compound high as a kite, claiming she’d had his child, a son. David hadn’t cared and ran her out of town. He’d almost lost Jane once because of Shannon and wouldn’t risk it again, so he put his supposed child out of his mind to preserve his marriage. He had been in denial about the boy and chose to believe Shannon had lied.

And what had it gotten him? A son who was out to destroy him and those closest to him, and the death of his daughter. I wasn’t sure how anyone could ever forgive RJ for murdering Megan.

“So I just keep on lying and being Lydia to her?” I hated all the lies and deceit.

“Yes,” Storm said.

I turned toward Landon and stared at him pleadingly. He took my hand under the table and squeezed it gently. On my other side, Toby’s hand rubbed my thigh. At that moment, I knew my men would do everything possible to get Ella and Rockson out of Scornrock, so I kept my mouth shut.

I wasn’t a praying woman, but today I prayed Storm and his crew would find RJ before any of our people were hurt, then we could rescue Ella and Rockson and bring them where they belonged… with family—their Knight’s Legion family.

Then again, Ella could cut us out of her life for good after she learned I was Libby to everyone in my life, a former club girl in a motorcycle club, and Landon, a.k.a. Grizzly, was the MC’s computer genius.

For months, Storm had been searching relentlessly for Rocky Jones, his half brother. After reconnecting with my sister, Mona, I met Ella, a heartbroken single mom. She’d mentioned her ex RJ had abandoned her. The coincidence had been enough for Storm to assign me the task of forming a friendship with Ella while keeping Mona in the dark about my connection to KLMC. Fate had made it so easy, connecting dots that Storm couldn’t. Eventually, I’d learned RJ’s full name was Rocky Shannon Jones, and he’d been off the grid until he’d returned to Scornrock a few days ago.

All Storm wanted was to mend what his father had broken. Prez had compassion for his unruly brother. Rocky didn’t have to seek revenge on the Knights. We were good people and nothing like the Hell’s Bells. Storm and his crew would swoop in at the first opportunity and bring the wayward son to Minnesota.

“All right, cuz.” Storm cut his gaze at Maddox. “It’s your club. How are you going to defend it?”

Every brother at the table turned their attention to Maddox. He’d been glued to Storm’s side for many years, learning the ropes and preparing to be the club’s president. No one knew the hour or day when Storm would step down and Maddox would rise, but something told me it might be sooner than we thought.

“I want a crew patrolling Bastion and the compound nonstop,” Maddox said in a commanding voice, similar to his cousin’s, Storm’s. “If you see an unfamiliar face or cage, take a picture and send it to Toby. He’ll be investigating every lead.”

Storm nodded approvingly.

“When I give the order, the women and children will be placed in the family unit, where they will be guarded. Boxer and Dodge will be in charge of them.”

Storm nodded again.

I zoned out during the rest of Maddox’s speech. I couldn’t stop thinking about Ella. As a club girl, I enjoyed being with many different men. But Ella had fallen into the position out of desperation. I hated that for her.

Ella was strong, fierce, and resilient. If she could hold out a little longer, help would be on the way. I just hoped she would be able to forgive me. She didn’t have many friends, none I’d ever met. The only other person who seemed to genuinely care about her was Tomcat.

“Tomcat!” I shouted. “I bet he’d help you catch RJ. If you could get him, I am sure he would do anything to protect Ella.”

“She’s right,” Landon said. “He’s got no business being a Hell’s Bells. Doesn’t fit the mold.”

“Then we’ll see about getting Tomcat.” Maddox looked at Storm. They nodded simultaneously at each other.

I beamed internally, feeling hopeful after all the regrets and dread.

Rocky (RJ)

Four days had passed since I had last seen Ella, and I was going out of my mind. It hadn’t been easy to leave the apple pie with her and walk away. I firmly believed we’d be okay if we could spend time together and talk about shit, to hear what we’d both gone through. But my girl was stubborn as fuck—that part of her I clearly remembered—so I’d left quietly, to avoid making matters worse.

Later that evening, I’d been frustrated and furious while drinking and playing cards with Xabier and Keeno. Ranting like a little bitch. I’d needed to unload before I saw Ella the following day. But that hadn’t happened because I’d had a seizure.

Fuck, it had terrified me. I could’ve lost my memories of Ella again. If that had been the case, my crew should have slit my throat and ended my misery. I wouldn’t want to be in this goddamn world, an empty man with little knowledge of the most important person to me.

Once I’d been stabilized, Xabier had told Vegas we were going out of town, because he knew I wouldn’t want the club or Ella to know about my condition until I told them myself. Vegas hadn’t given a shit. Nobody had paid much attention to us since my return. We hadn’t even stayed at the clubhouse. Why would we? I hated those fuckers.

Fortunately, my episode hadn’t happened in front of Ella. She might’ve called 911. Or not. She might have left me to die because she hated me so much.

Stop it. She would do anything to save you, not that you deserve it.
