I dialed Xabier’s number. It rang and rang and rang. “Fuck! He’s not answering. Speed it up.”

Life was fucking crazy. Today was the sort of day to drive a person insane.

The love of my life had been sexually assaulted, then the woman I’d lived with and thought I had a kid with showed up at the worst fucking time.

I was shot at, then saved by the man I was on a mission to kill, who also happened to be my half brother.

And now my son, who had just learned this morning that I was his dad, was stolen by a human trafficking club whore.

Fuck, I couldn’t make this shit up. Maybe I was having the longest, most realistic, insane nightmare ever. I could only hope today was a horrible dream.

“All I gotta say is if anything happens to Ella or my boy, you better lock my ass up in a padded room to keep the rest of the world safe. Better yet, just put me out of my misery and bury me six feet under,” I said, to anyone listening.

“Fuck, Storm. He is your brother,” the driver said, laughing.

“Shut up, Boxer,” Storm replied, a hint of amusement in his growly voice.

It was not the time for jokes. And I sure as hell didn’t want to warm up to the man I despised, even if he seemed to want to help rescue my girl and son.

“Jesus, what the hell happened here?” Storm said.

I launched up, hissing in pain. “Open the fucking door!”

Tomcat slid the door open, and I jumped out. I skidded to a stop. Xabier was on his knees, holding Keeno, whose chest was covered in blood. A few yards away, Vegas was also covered in blood, his face hardly recognizable. A large boulder appeared to have been the weapon used in his death. It was also covered in blood.

“Xabier, where’s Ella?”

“Check the house.”

“I’ll go,” Tomcat said as he ran past me. “What the fuck!”

I ran into the trailer home, and Storm was hot on my heels. We both stopped hard.

Ella’s crying came from the back. I followed it and found her in Rockson’s bed. Tomcat had her scooped up, and the sight of them hit me dead in the heart.

“My baby, my baby, my baby,” Ella sobbed. “He-he-he’s gone.”

“We’ll find him, sweetheart. I promise we’ll find him.” Tomcat rocked her back and forth.

When she saw me, her eyes flashed with hatred. “Get out!”

“Baby, I am so sorry.”

“I don’t care!” she screamed. “Nothing matters to me anymore. You destroy everything and everyone you touch! I wish I had never met you!”

Jesus, her words slayed me. I stepped back into the hallway, numb and broken.

“Hey, she didn’t mean any of that.” Storm put his hand on my shoulder. “Trust me. She’s in shock and overwhelmed.”

“No, she meant it. It’s true. I destroy everyone I love. I’m just fucked up and bad luck. You’d be doing me a solid if you put a bullet in my head.” I cut my eyes to his intense gray orbs. “Please, I don’t want to hurt her anymore.” A tear rolled down my face, then another and another. “I don’t want to destroy my son.”

“Come with me.” He grabbed my arm and led me out of the hallway. “Look at that.” He pointed at Sid on top of Joy. “Your woman came in on that young girl being raped. I heard Tomcat say Ella had been gang-raped last month. Fuck, man. That’s horrific.”

“And if she hadn’t met me, she’d be living a good life.”

“Maybe, maybe not.” Storm pulled me out of the house. “And who’s that?”

“Vegas, my VP.”
