I pushed Rocky away. “Coming.”

“Tomorrow night, I’m having all of you,” he whispered.

I gulped. “Do you mean sex?”

“Yeah.”

“What about waiting until Halloween?”

“I can’t wait. I need you now, Ella. Will you be with me tomorrow?” The desperation in his eyes choked me up.

“Yes.” I stole another kiss and ran to the front door with a stupid grin on my face. He came back to me. I believed he was doing club business. His poor face was a mess of bruises and cuts. At least his lips weren’t damaged.

“What were you doing?” my mom asked.

“I thought I heard a baby kitten meowing, so I went to investigate.” I loved cats, so she would believe me. If it weren’t for being allergic to them, I’d have dozens of furry friends.

“Aww. Well, get inside. It’s cold out.”

I went to my bedroom and took my phone out of my purse. Several notifications pinged. All from Rocky.

Rocky (RJ): Damn, I missed you.

Rocky (RJ): Tasting your sweet lips made me hard for you.

Rocky (RJ): Tomorrow, you’ll be mine forever. I hope you feel the same about me.

Swoony flutters filled my stomach and heart.

Ella: I missed you more than you’ll ever know. I do feel the same about you.

Rocky (RJ): I didn’t mean to make you sad.

Rocky (RJ): You’re my girl, Ella. Don’t forget it.

Ella: Just try not to leave me in the dark.

Rocky (RJ): Deal. Can you stay the night with me?

Holy crap, was he serious? My folks would flip out. Then again, my dad might agree after what had happened earlier.

Ella: Maybe.

Rocky (RJ): Just say you’re staying at Brenda’s.

It was the weekend. Maybe I could get away with it.

Ella: I’ll try, but no promises.

Rocky (RJ): Okay. Good night, beautiful.

Ella: Good night.

I collapsed on the bed, all giddy and floating in the clouds. I’d do everything possible to stay the night with Rocky. Deep in my soul, I felt it… He’d meant every word and wasn’t screwing with me. I wouldn’t feel guilty for thinking the worst about Rocky. How was I to know he hadn’t dumped me when he hadn’t responded to my texts?

Could I have given him hell for what I thought was him ghosting me? Absolutely. Would it have done any good when I knew I’d give him another chance? Nope.

I wasn’t a drama queen. I wouldn’t bethatgirl, who went batshit crazy after the first bump in the road. The girl who wanted to make the guy suffer for messing uponetime.
