“Okay.” I did as he said, putting my hands lightly on his stomach. I felt him shake under my palms like he was laughing, then he pulled out of the parking lot in a flash. I fisted his shirt and tightened my arms around him.

“That’s better.” He patted one of my hands and kept his on it.

After nine in the evening, it was dusk out. Not totally dark, but it would be soon. He went out of town in a direction I’d not gone before.

The cool September air blew my blonde locks behind me and my skirt up. The mighty wind caressed my inner thighs and teased my panties. I shifted uncomfortably, wanting to rub myself on the leather seat. Instead, I pushed my chest against RJ’s back and rested my chin on his shoulder, fully relaxed and comfortable with him.

“Doing okay?” His hand glided up and down my bare leg.

“Mhm. Fantastic. No, exhilarated!”

“Good.” He took a sharp turn, and I leaned into it like he did.

Finally, after ten minutes, we slowed and went on a dirt road. No one was around. No homes or buildings were in sight. The area was remote and quiet. Nothing but clusters of trees, bushes, and red flowers with yellow centers were scattered about.

RJ parked and turned off his bike, then we sat silently for what felt like a lifetime.

He cleared his throat and exhaled. “If I’m too intense, tell me.”

“You’re not.”Weird. Why would he say that?

“I like you, Ella.”

“You hardly know me, RJ.”

“But I’m getting to know you better.” Deftly he tugged my leg and jerked me with one hand around toward the front… on his lap, with my nose touching his.

“Oh my!” I gasped, unsure of where to put my hands.

He didn’t have the same dilemma as me and promptly touched my bottom to reel me in closer. “Do you like me?”

“Yes,” I whispered as a shudder worked through me. The single word couldn’t be taken back now.Yesflitted through the air, swirling around us.Yeswould open the door to the next level with RJ, and I couldn’t wait to discover more about him.

“Do I scare you?” His voice and eyes darkened.

“A little.”

“You should be scared, Ella. I’m not the kind of guy you should be with, but I want you, and that’s all that matters to me.”

“And what if I say take me home and leave me alone?” I’d never say that, but I wondered what he’d say.

“I’d respect your wishes and never bother you again. But if you’re just testing me and plan to stay, you’ll never get rid of me. This is your one and only chance to walk away.”

“How do you know you want to be with me? I’m confident I am not your type.” My words didn’t match my feelings. I could tell he liked me, but why? Sure, we got along at the diner, but what did he see in me?

“You’re beautiful.” He gently moved a lock of my hair off my shoulder and gripped the back of my neck.

“I am?” I shuddered and held my breath.

“Mhm.” His intense gray depths studied my face, and his hand squeezed my butt. “But it goes beyond looks. I think you’re my spirit animal.”

“Really?” I gasped at his boldness, and my heart thundered in my chest. Spirit animal? That would explain the connection I felt with him. We seemed to relate to each other on a level that hadn’t made sense, given how different we were, yet nothing had ever felt more right than when we were together. But a little doubt crept in… “You’re not just feeding me a load of crap?”

“No, baby. I’m not.” He licked his bottom lip and moved toward my mouth. His tongue poked out, and he swiped it against my upper lip.Once. Twice. While he teased me, his gaze remained on mine, watching for my reaction and objection. He wouldn’t get it. “Have you ever been kissed before, Ella?”

“Yes.”

“When?” He pinched my bottom and made a displeased sound, like a growl.
