She leans back in her chair and checks her watch when there’s a knock on the door. Her head jerks in my direction with panic in her eyes, but everything else about her is calm.

“Saved by the knock,” Dr. Lewis says with a meek smile. “Time’s almost up anyway, so we can end our session here for today.”

She walks around her desk to escort me out. When she opens the door, her shoulders jolt up at the sight of Caleb on the other side, and she takes a step back.

I pinch the bridge of my nose and grind my teeth.

“You have got to stop this,” I say in annoyance.

“Oh,” Dr. Lewis says in shock. “Is there a problem here?”

Caleb crosses his massive arms and smiles down at me with a cocksure grin. “Isthere a problem?”

I flatten my hand against his chest, ignoring the fire igniting on my skin, and push him out of the doorway. Once we’re in the hallway, I turn to Dr. Lewis.

“No problem here that I can’t manage. See you later, doc.”

She gives me a tight grin and shuts the door, leaving me tomanageCaleb.

“How was your session with the quack?” he asks. “Are you certifiably crazy?”

I roll my eyes and walk out of the building to head to Emily Hall. I may not be certifiably crazy, but he’s pushing me to it. Once we’re in the courtyard, he grabs my elbow.

“I think you should come back with me to the frat house. I’m not comfortable with you being in the girl’s dorm by yourself.”

“It’s not your call to make,” I grind out. “We’ve gone over this. I am not living as a prisoner just to ease your paranoia. And for the record, I’m not by myself.”

He puffs out his chest like he’s ready to go into battle, and it makes me chuckle. This boy seriously believes that people should bend to his every demand.

“I’m not being paranoid, Evelyn. We’ve been trying for weeks now to figure out what happened at the library and who attacked you. Micah hasn’t been able to find any trace that you were even attacked.”

That makes me pause.

“Did he check the backup server’s temporary files? What about the feeds in the parking lots?” I question.

He raises an eyebrow at me. “Please don’t start talking to me in tech speak. I may be able to speak multiple languages, but tech isn’t one of them. I have no idea what the hell he’s done. What I do know is that all of the security tapes on campus have been washed.”

“All of them? The Beast had to come from somewhere,” I murmur, wracking my brain for alternative routes to find this guy.

“The Beast?” he questions, and I realize that I spoke too loudly.

My eyes lower to the ground, and I whisper. “It’s the only name I have for him.”

Caleb pulls me into an embrace. “No one is ever going to hurt you again.”

I briefly lay the side of my face on his winter coat, feeling his body heat emanate through the material, before pushing him away. He laughs.

“What’s wrong, babygirl? Can’t a guy hug his girlfriend?”

My palm smacks my forehead. “Estas loco! No soy tu novia!”

“Of course you are. I remember driving you wild the other night. Keep making this harder than it has to be, and I’ll be making you beg again.” His evil smirk makes me want to punch him in the balls, but I turn on my heels and walk away instead.

I am not having this conversation in the courtyard for all of Stratham to hear.

“For the last time, we’re not going as boyfriend and girlfriend, Micah!” I shout down the hall.
