The apartment door unlocks with a click. Liam’s footsteps come down the short corridor. “Honey, I’m home.”

Ugh. I hate it when he says that. It’s for the show, and he’s trying to keep up the façade, but it’s so cliché.

“Trina, you here?”

I’m half-covered by the lace curtains. I keep staring out the window mesmerized by the lights.

The fridge opens, and I hear Liam drinking from the carton again. He’s a true bachelor.

The fridge door closes, and footsteps pad the tiles. “There you are. How was your day?”

I half turn and shrug. “Pretty boring, actually.”

He strolls through the living area and collects the remote from the coffee table, standing in front of the TV. “When do you start work again?”

I cross my arms. “My boss gave me two weeks off because he thought we'd still be on our honeymoon. He’ll send me some work in a couple of days.”

Liam throws the remote to the sofa and comes over to me. “Hey, I’m sorry I’ve been so busy. They’re making me catch up for the five days I took off. Things will slow down soon, I promise.”

I look away from him and stare out the window again. Action speaks louder than words. We’ll see what happens.

Liam comes up behind me, wraps his arms over mine, and rests his chin on my shoulder.

I stiffen.

“You’re angry at me?”

I stand taller. “No.”

Liam brushes his lips against the crook of my neck. “Don’t be angry with me, Trina. I’m sorry you’ve been bored. We’ll have some fun together soon. I’ll take you out somewhere nice for dinner tonight.”

“Dinner is in the oven.”

“Oh, you made dinner. What a good wife you are.” He chuckles.

I tuck my arms closer to each other, barricading my heart from his charms.

Liam pulls back a few inches, tugs out his cell from his pocket, and holds his screen at an angle where only I can see it. “Saw this funny cat meme today. Thought you’d appreciate it.”

It’s a message from Nicholas Parsons: You guys aren’t showing much PDA. Get to it.

I let out a heavy breath. So that’s why he’s cuddling me. “Funny. But I’ve seen it before.” I can’t even bring myself to act cheerful. There goes my plan to be all chirpy and sweet to Liam for the cameras. Now that he’s here, I can’t fake it.

Liam slips his phone away and resumes hugging me from behind. He whispers into my ear. “I’m going to kiss you now.”

Oh, really? Right now, when I feel like total crap.

His back is to the cameras, so they won’t see our faces. I turn into his arms, and I find hesitancy in his eyes.

Well, he has nothing to worry about. I’m not going to let him kiss me for real.

I slip my hand up his chest and carefully place three fingers over his lips. Before he can protest, I stand on tippy toes and start kissing the back of my hand.

Liam stills for a moment, but he soon works out what I’m doing. He moves his head from side to side like he’s making out with me.

With my other hand, which the camera can see, I use my fingernails to trail up his spine and thread my fingers through his hair, twirling the end of his curls.

He mumbles against my fingers. “What are you doing?”
