“Oh my God.” I convulse, gagging in response.

I’m not saying this beautifully natural thing is gross; it’s just the blood.

That’s got to hurt.

Women are stronger than men. This moment in front of me proves that. The men who tell you otherwise have never seen a woman give birth.

“Keep pushing,” the doctor calls out.

“Fuck!” Vio yells, and her head falls back against the pillow.

Apparently, I’m a masochist because I look again and our son’s head is almost out.

“I’m so sorry I did this to you,” I tell my wife on the verge of throwing up.

“Get over here, you big baby!” she yells at me.

I move to the side of my wife’s hospital bed, and she screams out for what seems like hours.

Then I hear the cry of our son.

I kiss her on the forehead, sweat permeating her skin as Vio lets out an exhausted sigh.

My wife looks at the doctor, who holds our baby intently.

Her motherly instincts are already kicking in.

Her eyes never leave our son.

After they wrap him in a blanket, a nurse brings him over. I see his face and a tear drops down my cheek.

God, he’s so perfect. That small little face.

At that moment, I vow to protect him for as long as I can.

“What are you going to name him?” the nurse asks.

Vio looks over at me in question.

We hadn’t decided on a baby name yet, but Vio wanted me to choose.

“Sol,” I announce. “Sol Valente.” I smile.

His name is ‘sun’ in Spanish, but when put together with our last name it means “Strong Sun.” It’s the perfect mix of who Vio and I are.

“It’s perfect,” my wife whispers, tracing our little Sol’s face.

“I know.” I smirk. “When we have a girl, we can name her Wavy,” I tease, proud of my baby-making and naming skills.

“That would be a no,” Vio says instantly.

“What? We’re celebrities, which means we can name our children whatever the fuck we want.” I send a goofy smile in her direction.

“My husband and his dramatics,” she mutters under her breath as exhaustion takes a hold of her.

I grab the baby delicately out of her arms as she begins to fall asleep.

My eyes are drawn to her serene face, adorned with a gentle smile that whispers of joy and fulfillment.
