He motioned to his own security cameras—notably the ones pointed to the pathway between our homes.

“Saw you marching up here like the big bad wolf getting ready to huff and puff and blow my house down.”

I wanted to slap that smirk off his face. His caring behavior yesterday didn’t undo the line he’d crossed today.

“Care to explain to me why there’s a bunch of men outside my place, setting up cameras, Lockwood?”

He leaned against the door frame as his gaze glided over my appearance with a flare of lust in his eyes.

Damn it. I hadn’t even thrown a robe on when Sean woke me up, and then I became so angry, I had stormed outside and all the way over here without giving a second thought to my sleeping attire: a barely there tank top with no bra and a pair of shorts that my ass cheeks were slightly hanging out of. All so tight, it left nothing to the imagination.

“You’re angrier than I thought you’d be, Little Leopard.”

My nostrils flared. “Don’t call me a pet name. Get the cameras down.”

“A thank you would be nice.”

“Thank you?” Unbelievable. “Let me give you some advice.” I stepped into his space until our noses were only inches apart. Super annoying that I had to lookupat him;he’d better not misconstrue that in our power dynamic.“If you think any woman would appreciate being spied on, you’re more out of touch with reality than I thought.”

“It’s a security system.”

“And you just installed it. Without any heads-up.”

“According to my private investigator, Franco Hopkins is a very dangerous man,” Hunter said while I tried to hide the anxiousness that took flight in my stomach. “Franco believes you have something of Dominic’s, and if he’s desperate enough, he’d do just about anything to get it back. And he has other dangerous men at his disposal more than willing to do his bidding. Not to mention the Vigilante is still out there. After what you witnessed and the press conference that followed, who knows if he’s planning to come after you next?”

“It’s notyourdecision what protection methodsIemploy. I have door locks, a cell phone capable of dialing 911, and a baseball bat, among other security measures that do not involve youspyingon me. Those cameras violate my rights.”

His eyes narrowed. “I wanted to surround your cottage with armed men but thought this was an acceptable compromise. For now.”

“For now.” Unreal.

“I’m trying to keep you safe, Luna.”

“Good intentions don’t relieve you of your responsibility to respect the rights and boundaries of other human beings.”

Hunter tightened his jaw, and his piercing gaze hardened as he peered down at me in barely contained restraint.

“I’d venture to say that most people, should their life be threatened, would appreciate the efforts I’m going through to help you.”

“I don’t need your help, Hunter.”

His posture tensed. “I’m not accustomed to people talking to me like this.”

“Well, maybe growing up rich and powerful makes people too afraid to speak their mind around you.” I put my hands on my hips. “But you don’t have to worry about that with me.”

His brows, which had been drawn tight in irritation, slowly relaxed as the edges of his mouth curled up, a spark of mischief appearing in his eyes.

“Do you find this entertaining?” I snapped.

Hunter’s features softened, and he took a deliberate step closer, lowering his voice to a velvety tone.

“I find you fascinating.”

My body betrayed me, warming as his eyes roved up and down my body.

“People probably look at your small frame and assume you would back down from any confrontation, but you lean into it. Youarethe confrontation, aren’t you, Little Leopard?”

I clenched my jaw. “Take the cameras down. Immediately.”
