“This isn’t about you,” I sneered. “That man in there flat out refuses to leave her side. He’s been in that damn room for two weeks now. He barely eats. Barely sleeps. Fuck, Remi, I had to threaten to give him a sponge bath the other day because he doesn’t want to leave her side. Whatever you feel towards Solomon, it has nothing to do with Sunny or their relationship. You, of all people, know how they both feel about each other. You fought for them when everyone was against them.”

“You don’t understand what he did.”

“Yes, I do. We all know what happened. Solomon told us. So did Massacre when he came home. I also know how Reaper, my half-brother, your husband, sided with Montana and Fedorov. Seems to me that the person you need to be angry with is your husband for not trusting you with the truth. You have no right to take your anger out on Solomon. He was just doing what the club ordered him to do. If you want to be a bitch towards someone, go find my brother and yell at him, because I’m not allowing you back in that room until Sunny is awake and she can decide if she wants to see you. You are not the only one pissed at Reaper. I am too. Instead of bringing everything to the club, he let us all think the worst. That’s on him. However, until my brother shows his face, I am reserving my judgment on the matter. I suggest you do the same.”

“Why didn’t he just tell me?” Remi asked as a tear fell down her cheek.

Sighing, I hugged her. “I don’t know, sweetie. I don’t know why they do half the shit they do. They are idiots. That’s the only thing that makes sense.”

“Remi?”

Releasing my sister-in-law, we both turned to see Savage standing there with a takeout bag in his hand. Walking over to us, my husband gave me my dinner, then grabbed Remi, hugging her tightly.

“Missed you, woman,” he muttered as I wiped my eyes.

Remi sobbed into my husband’s chest, hugging him back as Bones and Stitch walked out with the nurses. After giving them orders, Bones turned to me.

“She’s stable again. I don’t know what set her off, but I’m ordering round-the-clock monitoring for the next twenty-four hours. Jess, Solomon is barely hanging on. If he doesn’t get some sleep soon, he’s gonna snap.”

“He won’t sleep, Bones. I had a bed brought in for him, but he refuses to use it.”

“Maybe we sedate him,” Stitch muttered.

“You can’t do that,” Remi sniffed. “He’s afraid of needles.”

“How do you know that?” I asked curiously.

“Sunny told me. They had to get blood work done to get married. She had to hold his hand the whole time and even then, the only way the nurse could get his blood was for Sunny to sit in his lap.”

“What he needs is someone to sit with her while he sleeps. Someone he trusts,” Stitch advised.

“There isn’t anyone,” Savage stated. “Sandman doesn’t trust anyone where Sunny is concerned.”

“That’s not true. He trusts Jessica,” Remi whispered, looking at me. “I saw the way he reached for you in there. He trusts you, Jess. If anyone can get him to sleep, it will be you.”

Nodding, I took a deep breath and entered Sunny’s room.

“Solomon?”

I stood there, watching, waiting for him to acknowledge me. I still wasn’t sure he would listen to me, but for Sunny, I was willing to try anything. I knew Solomon needed sleep. The longer he went without it, the more agitated and hostile he would become. Sleep deprivation was no joke. It could make the calmest person crazy.

When he lifted his head and looked past me, I murmured, “She left, sweetie.”

Laying his head back down, still holding Sunny’s hand close to his lips, he whispered, “I want her to wake up, Jessie.”

I gasped.

I hadn’t heard him call me that in years. Even when we were reunited, he addressed me by my given name, completely disregarding our shared childhood memories. It hurt, but I didn’t let it bother me. I knew Solomon was a unique individual. He rarely, if ever, showed any emotion.

“You haven’t called me that since we were kids.”

Reaching across Sunny, he held out his hand for me to take like he did when we were little. I always felt safe when he was near. There was just something about him, even back then. I knew he would protect me. We may not have been blood relatives, but Solomon was my brother in every sense of the word.

Taking his hand, I lightly squeezed. “Baby, I need you to sleep. Really sleep. I will stay with Sunny.”

“I can’t leave her.”

“I know. That’s why you are going to sleep in the bed I had brought in. You are going to rest and I will sit with Sunny. I will hold her hand and talk to her. She will understand.”
