“I don’t hate him,” I muttered.

“Yes, you do. You flinch every time someone mentions his name. When Sandman, Fedorov and Montana flew to California and told you the truth, what did you do?”

“Nothing.”

“Remi, your husband made a pact with the devil to protect you. He knew what it would cost him, and he still did it. There is a deeper reason Kansas and his brothers don’t associate with Montana and the Soulless Sinners. You may think you are alive right now because of Montana, but it’s what your husband gave up to protect you. Montana and the others only cared about what they were getting out of the deal. They could have ended this fucking war a long time ago but didn’t. Instead, they stood back and let Reaper and the Golden Skulls take all the risks. And fuck me, did we lose a lot along the way, but none more so than Reaper.”

“He hurt me,” I whispered.

“Because you didn’t trust him.”

My head snapped up. “What the hell did you just say?”

“You heard me. You never fully trusted him. If you did, then you would know that Reaper would have never cheated on you.”

“I trusted him the most.”

Shadow shook his head. “No. Your past would never allow that. Think for a minute, Remi. From the moment you were born, your birth father gave you away. The family who wanted you couldn’t protect you. You were a pawn in a game not of your making. Instead of being loved and protected, you’ve endured a lifetime of abuse from men and women who used you to get what they wanted, and the one man who chose to make a stand, to stop your torment, is the one man you damn near killed because in your mind, he was like all the others.”

“Max is nothing like them!” I snarled, getting to my feet.

How dare he say that shit to me?

Max was nothing like them.

He would never hurt me like they did.

All Max wanted was to love me.

To give me the family I never had.

Shadow smirked. “Now’s there is the Remi I know. Hold on to that feeling because your war is just beginning.”

“What are you talking about?”

“What? No one has told you is that Reaper’s gone dark? He’s fully embraced his demon and you are the only one who can save him. Because if you don’t, and Montana has to put him down, then that bastard is going to waltz in and take over the Golden Skulls. That’s why Kansas and his brothers want nothing to do with him. It’s not the first time Montana has done something like that. There is a reason the Soulless Sinners are the biggest MC in the world.”

“What are you saying?” I gasped.

The office door slammed open as Kansas and his brothers rushed in. Seeing the worry on their faces, I asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Need to get you to the safe room, Remi. Satan’s Angels are attacking.”

Dakota didn’t waste time as he grabbed my arm, quickly ushering me from the office. Looking over my shoulder, I saw Shadow standing there, staring at me.

What in the hell did he mean by that?

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Sandman

From the shadows, I watched as Satan’s Angels got themselves into position. I counted at least four chapters that converged near the area. That was close to a hundred men. They had the Diamondbacks surrounded. There was no way out. It was going to be a slaughter. Just like the one from five years ago. Only this time, the Diamondbacks would not survive this fight.

None of them would.

I could see them moving into position.

They were gearing up to breach the compound. They wanted the prize on the inside. The one I promised to protect. She was in there. She was the mark. She may hate me, but I don’t care.
