I grab Seb by the shoulders and shake him. “She is everything! Everything! We’re broken without her. I’m broken without her. I can’t leave her to this fate. If we have to start again, we can. We will. But I don’t care about the plan, the mission, revenge. I just want to protect her.”

Seb blinks and hugs me again. “That’s all we needed to hear.”

Lukas thumps me on the shoulder. “I’m going to open the bond now.”

We step back, giving him space.

Lukas opens it and staggers. His throat bobs, and he looks like he’s in physical pain before he gets a grip on it all. I have a moment to wonder if we made a mistake getting him to shut it down. Maybe the element of surprise wasn’t worth it. His snarl is dark as he whirls on his heel and leads us unerringly up the carpeted stairs.

“Send in the decoys.” Seb snaps into the comms.

“Copy that.” Ava responds instantly.

“Ava, I want team two ready to storm the party.” I say and glance over my shoulder and freeze.

“If you want me to end you right this second, you will take one more step.” I don’t recognise the voice, but I curse under my breath for being distracted and missing him sneaking up on us.

The alpha is huge, with long black hair and a twisted face like he’s been in too many bar fights. He snarls, and we snarl back. I step towards him.

“Turn and walk back this way with me.” The cold, feminine voice rips through my mind, trying to force me into obedience. I struggle free of the bark and allow my influence to free Seb and Lukas.

“Scarlet.” I acknowledge and tip my head in gratitude.

She nods at me and shepherds the man back down the stairs. In the shadows, I see the alpha Taylor again turn and follow her.

“Go.” I say to Seb and Lukas.

We rush up the stairs, getting out of view of the party. But when I glance around, it feels like just the start. Everything looks the same. Polished floorboards with carpet runners and art on the walls, broken up by sparse furniture. Corridors and hallways with rooms off each side, and I have no memory of what any of this is. My panic is pointless. Lukas doesn’t hesitate. He leads us through to the east wing of the mansion.

Seb smashes locked doors while I put a jittery hand on my stomach and keep watch.

All the awful scenarios go through my head, but I push it all out. That’s not happening to her. I’ll burn this estate to the ground. I’ll kill them all. Not my omega. I won’t allow them to break her. I refuse to allow shadows in her eyes. I love her and she is mine. Nothing matters but her, not my vengeance, not my life, not my pain.

I stumble a bit, my eyes widening as the realisation sinks in. I’m happy with her, and I want it. I want it all with her, and I will give up everything just to see her smile. I feel it change and reform all of who I am in an instant, and then I’m jogging, just slightly behind Lukas, as her scent fills the air.

Her scent hits me like a truck, sending a wave of white, fiery lust and blood red rage. My omega. They stole my omega, and now she’s in heat.

I’m going to kill them all.

“Wait, she’s in heat!” Darion protests. “What if we hurt her?”

I turn, gripping his shirt and pulling him close. “She is ours. We won’t hurt her because we know she belongs to us. That scent is ours. It’s not going to drive you out of your mind. It’s calling to you for help.”

He gulps and nods. “Right, you're right.”

The bond calls to me, snapping open suddenly, and I hear her screaming inside my mind, inside my soul. My steps quicken as we smash through door after door. I barely notice anything, not pain, not the expensive wood fracturing. I have one purpose; getting to my omega.

The more barriers I find, the more the tension, that throbbing, pounding inside my head strengthens until I feel I could burst. I swing my fist, punching a door so hard that the hinges snap. It goes flying down the hallway, but I barely notice.

I catch a flash of colour and turn, spotting movement deep in the shadows. I still, my eyes fixing on the telltale rise and fall of a person’s chest as they try to hide from me.

Darion brushes my shoulder, and I feel the same rage from him. In this, we are of the same mind.

“Extraction complete, sirs.” Ava’s voice sounds in my ears, but I ignore her. Nothing matters but Missy.
