“Okay. So what’s the vibe tonight? What am I wearing?”

“Whatever the fuck you want. We’re just going to do business.”

I sigh heavily. “What is it you guys do? Because I thought I knew, but this entire operation…that’s, uh…not it, is it?”

Lukas stands up, still smiling. “I’d tell ya, but then I’d have to fuck ya, and we know how that will go.” He snaps his teeth at me, and I blanch.

No fucking because fucking will lead to knotting, which will lead to bonds and marks. The ones I lay awake longing for. Kill me now. Contract! I remind myself stiffly.

“Consider my curiosity dead.” I mutter.

He laughs as he retreats from my room. I find myself breathing deep, inhaling his lingering scent like a damn addict.

“Leave it alone. You have what you need. And you don’t need them.”

I stand up, reluctantly replacing my blankets in my bag and shifting the clothes until I find something modest and sexy. The price tags on the clothes cause me to break out in a cold sweat.

I wrinkle my nose and get dressed in a pair of skin-tight jeans and a jumper that hangs off one shoulder. It’s the softest material I’ve ever worn, and I can’t stop stroking myself.

Time escapes me, and I find myself standing in the kitchen alone. All the reflective shiny surfaces are so cold. I open a couple of cupboards, but it feels too much like snooping, so I stop.

The garden calls me, and I wander out into the world of green, exploring until I find a fishpond. Though it’s pretty, it doesn’t soothe the sharp edges inside me. Back inside, I spot a set of stairs. My gaze lingers on them as I return to the kitchen. I glance around, but the guys haven’t come out of their rooms, so I climb them. At the top, I find a black door. I push it open, poke my head out, and suck in air with a gasp.

This is exactly what I needed.

Rooftop terrace. I wander around, exploring the area, until I find a spot where I can sit comfortably and watch the city. Dusk gives way to night, and the city lights up with more colours than I could imagine. I didn’t even know the city was capable of being pretty until tonight.

I stay until thirst drives me back down to the living area. Darion turns when he hears me on the stairs, his face a mask of rage.

I stop and send a quick, silent appeal to Seb, who avoids my eyes. “Uh, hi.”

“Where have you been?” Darion shouts.

“Um…the roof.”

Watching how angry he is stirs my anger to life. I clear my expression and sweep down the stairs, walking around him and approaching the fridge like nothing’s wrong. It takes everything I have not to turn and keep my eye on him. My instincts scream danger, but my mind tells me to fake it out.

“Why were you on the roof?” He barks.

I roll my eyes and open a container that contains some kind of Chinese food. I sniff and raise an eyebrow at Seb. He nods. I take the container and the spoon he passes me to the table.

“Well?”

“I was up there sending smoke messages.” I snap at him. “What the hell do you think people do on the roof, Darion? I sat and watched the sunset. Is that okay?”

“No.”

I stare at him, lost for words. “Well, tough!” I eat the food, but it takes a moment before I can calm down enough to enjoy the flavours.

“Darion, chill. She’s here. She didn’t run off.” Seb soothes, which only serves to annoy me and spike Darion’s temper, too.

He stalks over to me; I hear his steps. I tense despite myself as he leans over, putting his face close to mine. In all this warfare with Darion, Lukas just strolls over to the table and sits opposite me with his own bowl of food. He in no way looks even remotely like he’s going to rescue me. He sits with his bowl and takes a huge forkful, his eyes ping-ponging between us like we’re his favourite TV show. I almost, almost turn my ire on him.

“Do not try me.”

Sheer rage turns the air tart with raspberries. I try to calm myself, but I can’t. He’s so irrational and mean. Tears burn in my eyes.Fucking dick!My emotions swing wildly from frustration and anger to despair and back again. I turn my face and lick his cheek.

I mean, it’s the only logical course of action.
