King snatches the paper from me before I even have a chance to tell them. He looks it over before his gaze lingers on mine.

“Jordy.”

I shake my head when King looks at me, no, he’s looking through me like he doesn’t recognize me.

“I promise I didn't know,” I murmur.

My parents were hired by the commissioner. What the hell were they planning to do?

“Fuck,” Cass hisses behind me.

“I promise. I didn’t,” I stammer, looking at Cass and Bass as he reads over the paper.

“It’s not us you have to convince, Jordy. It's Nova,” King growls and goes after her.

Fuck, what did my parents get me tangled in?

Slamming the paper down, I follow King, going after Nova.

King’s banging on the door when I catch up to them.

“Jordy, leave,” he demands, but I’m not going, no fucking way. I’m not having Nova hate me, this was my parents not me. I had nothing to do with her father’s death. If they’re involved there’s no stopping them, they’re too fucking dangerous.

The door slowly opens, revealing a tear-stained Nova.

“Baby girl, please,” I whisper. Fuck, I can’t stand to see her cry and it’s because of me, I’m a fucking asshole.

King moves past her, placing a kiss on top of her head as he does, leaving us to talk. Holding herself against the door, Nova’s gaze holds mine.

“I promise you, I had no idea they were involved with your father. My parents are snakes, Nova. They slither in and cause chaos then before you know it they’ve disappeared and you don’t see them again until it’s too late. “I’m sorry,” I beg. “Please, Nova. Let me explain, to all of you,” I say.

“It was just a shock,” Nova murmurs softly, playing with a strand of her hair.

“Do you think they’re involved in his murder?” she asks.

Her face falls and I know she’s thinking about that night.

“I’ll find out, and I promise you if they are, I'll take them out.”

My parents would die if they killed Santonio for their own personal gain, I just wasn’t sure how to tell them about him.

Nova sighs, shaking her head.

“Everything is so messed up. I still have to plan my father’s funeral.”

“I’ll sort that out, don't worry,” I tell her, placing my hand behind her neck before I run my fingers down her cheek.

“We got you, princess,” King says from inside the room.

Turning to look at him over her shoulder, Nova nods then looks back to me.

“I’m tired,” she exclaims. I place a soft kiss to her cheek before running my thumb over it one last time.

“Please don't hate me. Not for them,” I beg.

“I don’t hate you, I’m just overwhelmed.” I nod in understanding. These last few days have been a lot. But I’ll keep my promise that if my parents had anything to do with the death Santonio, I won't stop until they’re gone. Because I know the pain of what my parents can do and even though it won't bring back my sister or Nova’s parents, it’ll bring some peace knowing they can't hurt anyone else ever again.

I take a seat at the table, slowly pulling the contents of the envelope out.
