Without realizing it, I fall headfirst into a nap, waking up with the sun much lower, and my cell phone vibrating against my skin.

How are you?

It’s a text from Alex, and it makes me smile.

I tried to make peace, but Bella blocked me for good,I text him.

Oh lord…he sends a sad face emoji and then he texts:

Leave it be for now. She’ll accept it eventually.

I sure hope so,I send back.I’m feeling really bad about all of this. I didn’t want to break you two apart.

Alex takes a moment to reply, but when he does, he feels my heart with joy.Don’t worry. She’ll calm down soon enough. Doesn’t she always? We’ll get through this.

Okay,I text him back with a smile.

Listen, I pulled a favor and got some house listings from my buddy today. I want to go with you tomorrow when you meet with the leasing agent. At what time are you free?

I ponder for a second. I really don’t want him more involved in my life than he should be yet, but I would appreciate his help and support.

Okay, meet me at city hall midday, I have work there, but later I’ll be free,I send.

Alright, see you then!

I order in some early dinner and fall asleep without brushing my teeth not much longer after, waking up at 5 AM. I brush my teeth extra good, change into my workday clothes, grab my camera case, and head downstairs to wait for the cafe there to open.

A few hours later, I’m off to work.

I drop by the office and from there, Martha, one of the reporters, accompanies me to city hall.

The assignment is simple enough, and we’re done way before midday, but Martha stands around asking questions, while I take pictures of all the movement around us.

I’m in the middle of a photograph when a pair of hands surprises me.

“Guess who?” a disguised voice asks.

I know who it is, and I take his big and powerful hands from my eyes and turn around to face Alex.

“Hello, big guy!” I deposit a brief kiss on his lips. “I’m eager to see where you’ll take me.”

Alex is wearing a power suit so hot it gives me ideas. I wave goodbye to Martha, and he takes me by the arm and starts moving around the crowd of people and toward his car.

“We’ll meet with a leasing agent for the first address. Did you have lunch already?”

I shake my head and feel my stomach. “I’m hungry, but not in the mood to eat, if you know what I mean. Maybe later?”

“Sure,” he smiles. I have a feeling he’s ready for lunch, but it’s sweet that he’s willing to wait.

We head to the first address, a midtown apartment in a quaint neighborhood. The realtor takes a while to arrive, likely having lunch first, and when she does, she’s a tiny thing with the spirit of a giant.

“Hi, I’m Anna Becket!” she says upon shaking our hands. “Are you ready to see the first apartment?”

“Oh, I am!” I roll my eyes. “I just got kicked out by my roommate!”

Alex doesn’t seem to enjoy it when I say that, but Anna goes into a giggling fit, and as we walk to the apartment building, she grabs my wrist and starts acting like she is my best friend.

“Oh, I always loved to find homes for new couples!” she says, taking out her keys.
