At one time, Professor Shetty had been his mentor on a paper during his MBA days. Something loosened in his chest at the strange coincidence. The professor and he had maintained touch over the years, and Rajiv had asked him several times to come and give a talk to his employees, but it had never worked out until now.

He tipped his head. “Alright. You can go inside. If you sayplease.”

Well, she was here in his domain. It would be highly amiss of him if he didn’t use that opportunity to ruffle her feathers some more. And somehow, he knew that hearing the wordpleasespill from her lips would be very enthralling.

Her eyes hardened. “I was right about you. You truly are an asshole.”

“Sayingpleasehurts your ego, does it?”

“I willneverbeg in front of you.”

A hundred different ways of how he could make her beg came to his mind. All of them were dirty and filthy, and involved naked bodies and mouths and hands. He shook his head to clear his mind of those raunchy thoughts. No. He wasn’t going there.

“The thing I’ve learned in life, Princess, is to never say never.” He stepped closer to her and spread a palm toward the door. “Shall we?”

She flicked her long hair off her shoulders and marched past him inside the dim hall. She halted at the entrance, taking everything in. His staff of two hundred were all seated inside, listening to the ongoing talk.

There were a couple of vacant seats at the back, but instead of taking one of them, Sheena walked forward boldly. Confidently. She reached the first row, found an empty seat and perched on it.

Fire…she was all fire. And damn, he loved it. After a very long time, he’d met a woman who was so bloody daring, and what was even more interesting was that she wasn’t scared to take him on. She gave as good as she got. He’d met heiresses aplenty. Only a handful had the kind of intelligence and confidence that oozed out of Sheena. She was a deadly combination of beauty and brains. And for the first time in his life, he was intrigued and tempted. So fucking tempted.

He wanted to walk right up to her and ask the person sitting next to her to get up so he could go sit beside her, but he curbed himself. She wasn’t for him, he repeated to himself. He had to stop riling her up at every opportunity he got. He had to stop engaging with her.

Thus, he stood at the end of the hall, from where he listened to the remainder of the speech. Professor Shetty was absolutely brilliant at communication, people management, and human psychology, and this session was organized specially for his staff to better their interpersonal skills.

The lights turned on two hours later, followed by a loud applause and a standing ovation. People started pouring out of the hall, several nodding at him as they walked past. Several others stayed back to speak to the professor. He found Sheena still seated, writing in a notebook. After the crowd around the professor thinned, she walked up to him and shook hands with him. The two of them started talking animatedly as they walked to the exit.

The professor halted when he spotted Rajiv.

“There you are,” he said. “I thought you wouldn’t come today.”

Rajiv smiled warmly at his old mentor. “I’d never miss your lecture, Sir.”

“Have you met Sheena Sehgal?” The professor urged Sheena forward, who looked like she wanted to be anywhere but near Rajiv. “Sheena, this is Rajiv Mehra, the owner and MD of Poseidon.”

Rajiv offered her his hand, knowing she’d have to take it. Eyes flashing in warning, she put her hand in his. A tingle spread from her hand to his, startling him.

He brushed the feeling away.

“Sheena’s doing a PhD in human psychology,” the professor continued, “and I’m going to be her mentor for the next few years while she navigates the course. Luckily, Sheena has agreed to live in Dubai for the next few months so we can plan her program properly. Post that, we will decide how to continue our sessions.”

Another wave of excitement swamped him. Sheena wasn’t simply visiting his city. She’d be staying here. For a few months.

He smiled at her. “Welcome to Dubai.”

“Thanks,” she replied stiffly.

“Sheena,” the professor began. “Rajiv is the reason I’m in Dubai. He was my student, and I helped him write a paper during his MBA days. He’s been after me to consult his massive HR team since a few years. This boy is too convincing; see, I’m here, finally.”

“Having you here is my privilege and honour, Sir,” Rajiv said. “My team will benefit greatly from your wealth of experience.”

The professor looked at Sheena and then at Rajiv. “I have a request, Rajiv.”

“Anything, please.”

“Since Sheena and I need to work closely for a few months, I suggest that she work with me from your office.”

“What?” Sheena gasped.
