Professor Shetty nodded. “It makes perfect sense. You will get a three-hundred-and-sixty-degree view of how HR deals with their employees in a huge corporation like Poseidon. And I will also be acting as an in-house counsellor for the Poseidon employees, should they need my help. I would like you to sit in on those sessions as well. It will be a great learning experience for you. That is, if Rajiv doesn’t mind.”

“But, Sir, I don’t have any corporate work experience,” Sheena said softly.

Rajiv could hear the disappointment in her voice, and his curiosity about her spiked.

“Why don’t you consider this an internship?” the older gent suggested. “You’re here to learn and experience everything I have to offer. This is such a well-timed and favorable opportunity.” Without waiting for her response, he addressed Rajiv. “What do you think? Will this be okay for you?”

Rajiv looked at Sheena. “It will be my absolute pleasure.”

Prof. Shetty squeezed his shoulder. “Thank you. You’ve always been a good boy. Now, if you will excuse me, I have a call to make.” To Sheena, he said, “I will see you the day after, on Monday, at nine sharp at Poseidon. We will make the office there our base. Rajiv will give you the details of the location, etc.”

She nodded warily.

The professor opened the door and exited, leaving the two of them all alone in the vast hall.

Rajiv turned to face her. She was still staring at the door, as if contemplating the change of circumstances.

“I quite like the idea of being your boss, Princess,” he said.

His words snapped her out of her thoughts. She tilted her head. “You’re not my boss. I’m just working temporarily with the professor. Not for you.Neverfor you.”

He lifted a shoulder and dropped it. “Myorganisation.Mypremises. Seems like I’m the boss.”

She rolled her eyes. “I really want to hit you.”

He grinned. “I so want to see you try.”

She scowled. “God. You’re so full of yourself.”

“It’s one of my more attractive qualities, and usually works like a charm.”

“Now you’re delusional as well,” she added.

He chuckled. “You really don’t like me, do you?”

“As of now, I haven’t seen anything about you tolike,” she replied candidly.

He stepped closer to her, invading her space. She stood her ground, raising her gaze to meet his.

“Who knows, a day may come when you change your mind about me, Princess…”

She shrugged. “Miracles rarely occur.”

“You’re such a pessimist.”

“No. I’m merely a realist.”

He laughed now. She truly was all fire, and he loved stoking her flames higher and higher.

Ignoring him, she took a step forward. And all of a sudden, the lights went off.

“Oh God,” Sheena grumbled. “This has got to stop. Why do the lights go off every time we are together?”

He wondered the same. It was like the universe was giving him a sign, only he didn’t know what that was and what to do with it. She moved a step to the side and banged into him.

She gasped. He caught her waist, steadying her. The darkness shadowed her form. He didn’t even know he’d pulled her closer until she fell against his chest, her hands coming to rest on his arms. Her touch warmed him through the layers of clothes he was wearing. The lack of light enhanced everything about her. Her breaths sounded louder. Her scent was sharper—he still couldn’t make out what it was. Her chest rose and fell against his, and desire burned through him. The temptation to kiss her, learn the taste of her lips once and for all, and thus decipher whatever this fascination he had for her, just became stronger.

“Rajiv…” she whispered.
