Avantika smiled. “Think of it not as an engagement ring, but a commitment ring. We figured he wouldn’t have thought that far ahead, and we wanted to gift you something to welcome you into our midst. Besides, he’s done so much for us over the years; this is the least we can do for him.”

Sheena stared at the box and then at Rajiv. He lifted the box and opened it. He smiled and went down on one knee.

She gasped. He took her right hand in his.

“Sheena, will you marry me and accept all these people in my life, along with my parents and sisters? You will have to live with me knowing that all of them are my responsibility and that I will protect them all with my life if I have to.”

A tear fell. She sniffed it away. No more crying. She kneeled down on the floor next to him. “I love you, Rajiv. And I will stand beside you in whatever and whichever way you want me to. I swear to protect those you love and to love them as my own if they give me a chance.”

A loud yes erupted around them. Rajiv slipped the ring on her finger. It was a small round diamond with a circle of smaller diamonds around it. He kissed her lips, and everyone started clapping.

He took her left hand in his. “Your real engagement ring is still pending. But I won’t let you take back your words ever. You are mine from this day on.”

“I think I was yours from the moment I met you.”

Neil peeped his head inside the living room. “Mom, what happened?”

Everyone turned to face him.

“We are all very happy,” Avantika said. He frowned and then again returned outside to kick his ball, totally disinterested in all of them.

“Alright, this calls for some champagne.” Vihaan stood. “And now that Sheena is marrying you, it means that Club Poseidon will finally get a long overdue makeover, right Sheena? It is one of my favorite places, so please make it look good.”

“Hey, it’s not that bad,” Rajiv grumbled.

“The décor sucks,” Sheena and Vihaan said at the same time before they burst out laughing.

Vihaan winked at her and headed to the kitchen, while the others offered their congratulations to Rajiv and her. Avantika scooted closer to her and took her right hand in hers, appreciating the ring.

Sheena’s phone rang. Seeing her brother on the line, she stilled.

“Shit,” Sheena muttered.

“What’s wrong?” Rajiv asked.

“Kabier booked a flight for me to return to India, which I missed.”

“So? Just tell him everything.”

“I can’t. Not on the phone. He’s mad at you after I told him what I assumed had happened at the restaurant between Avantika and you.”

“Bloody hell, Sheena. You ought to have had more faith in me. I’m already on his hate list.”

“Yeah, he was the one who sent me the pictures of you with that model.”

Rajiv gritted his teeth. “That guy. He’s annoying.”

“He did what was expected of him,” Sheena justified. “Who asked you to go post pictures with that random woman just to make me hate you?”

“Idiot!” All the Rajpoots said at the same time.

“Shut up, all of you,” Rajiv groused.

She turned him to face her. “Rajiv, please. Kabier is my brother, and I need his blessing on our union. I don’t want him upset on this. He’s important to me.”

His eyes sparkled. “When you sayplease, I’d do anything for you, Princess.”

She rolled her eyes. “Is that the only thing you heard from that? I really want to hit you now.”
