Right.

That damn possessiveness.

“Hmm. Good point.” She studied me. “We could ask Rok.”

“No, we couldn’t,” I said quickly.

Her eyes narrowed, but I didn’t think her sudden suspicion was pointed at me. “He hasn’t done anything to hurt you, right?”

“Oh, no. Definitely not. I feel a lot safer with him than any of the other guys,” I said quickly. “I just don’t want his hands in my hair. I’m not sure how my body will react. I try not to look too closely at him.”

She gave me a knowing grin. “No wonder you’re not glowing.”

My face heated, the red looking more vibrant next to the pink of my hair.

Damn, that was terrible luck. Maybe I should’ve left it long.

My gaze moved over the short, choppy strands.

No, the length was perfect.

“I’m just going to leave it,” I decided. “It’s a lot better than it was. I feel ten pounds lighter, so thank you, Kyla.”

“No problem.” She gave me a quick hug, and I returned it.

“Worren brought you cake,” Ezra told Kyla.

Her eyes lit up, and I wondered if she was really as against being pursued by the werewolves as she claimed.

“Gotta go!” She hurried out of the bathroom, and Ezra moved to the side to let her past.

I stood up, brushing the long strands off my arms and legs. She came back with the broom, and I swept the hair up quickly, unable to stop the grin that blossomed on my face as I said goodbye to the hair. It was just hair… but it felt like so much more.

It felt like freedom.

“I’m heading home to shower,” I told her, after I finished cleaning up, then ducked into the room of spare clothes and grabbed a few more sets in my size.

“No worries. I brought you some groceries, so you should take them back home with you. The guys are still working on getting the grocery store up and running, but it takes forever for the produce to go bad here, so it’s not really a priority,” Ezra said, walking with me to the door. I found a few reusable bags waiting beside it, all of them loaded with food items.

“Thank you.” I tucked my clothes in the top of the bag and then slipped out of the building.

Of course, Amarok was waiting outside for me. He shifted forms smoothly and took the bags for me, his gaze lingering on my face.

Probably on my haircut, actually.

“You’re stunning with short hair,”he said into my mind.

Shock made my eyes well with tears. I hadn’t cut it to be attractive, but after hearing so many insults about how bad I’d look if I did, I hadn’t expected anyone to like it. “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me for being attracted to you.”

My lips curved upward, but my mind went back to what Kyla had said about the glow.

And how I didn’t glow.

It probably offended him that I wasn’t glowing, yet he hadn’t said a word about it. He hadn’t brought it up, asked me about it, or done anything to try to make me glow.

Dammit, the manrespectedme. He respected that I had different feelings than him, and he wasn’t trying to make me feel any certain way, even though we both knew it was what he wanted.
