“Did you guys enjoy the session?” Alisha asks as she jogs up to us.

Panting heavily for breath, Akshay moans. “Am I dying?”

“You two aren’t that old, are you?” She says moving her eyes from Akshay to me with an innocent smile.

“Hell no, we do this shit daily,” Akshay gives a forced smile as he tries his best to stand straight on his wobbly legs with a macho smile.

Alisha nods but her expression shows she doesn’t believe his words. Fucker deserves it.

“Okay, I need to go now. Misha is waiting for me, as we are going for coffee. I will see you guys later,” she says while meeting eyes with me. I nod reluctantly as she waves us bye.

Akshay and I make our way to my car.

“Fuck. I can’t lift my leg to get in the car,” he groans as he struggles to sit on the passenger seat.

I know exactly how he feels. I am struggling as well to get behind the steering wheel.

Moaning, I attempt to get into the car but am unable to.Akshay looks at my struggle and averts his gaze to hide his smirk. However, it doesn’t go unnoticed by me, making me madder.I am not sure how long it will take us to get in the car. Possibly until someone forcefully pushes us in.

Chapter 12

Alisha

Feeling as happy as a clam, I push the button of the elevator and wait. The bell chimes and the door opens. Stepping inside, with the cup of coffee in hand, I press the button to Ranveer’s floor. I got his address from his granddad and wanted to personally thank him for attending the class yesterday. That’s the reason I stopped at the Starbucks on the way to get his favourite coffee, which his granddad happened to mention. Ranveer and I may not be each other’s choice but his being a part of small things in my life such as a fitness class, makes me believe, or rather, hope that it should not be awkward, and we can have a friendly relationship.

Standing in front of his door, I ring the doorbell, while I glance around and notice that this floor doesn’t have any other apartments. It’s so tranquil and welcoming. Several seconds later, I hear the sound of footsteps coming closer. Grinning ear to ear, I adjust the cup of coffee in my hand.

“Surprise…...” The words are stuck in my throat as I see a stunning girl wearing a skimpy outfit. I can’t help but notice the scandalous neckline and the hemline of her dress, which is barely skimming her thighs. It doesn’t take me long to put two and two together. What’s worse, it feels like déjà vu. This is happening again, but this time, it’s not unexpected. I am well aware of the kind of man I am dealing with. Nonetheless, blood drains from my face. My heart hammers in my ribcage, and I am terrified that my head is going to explode anytime soon.

“Hey,” she says in a honey-coated voice.

“Hi, I… I am…” I shudder. No words. I am blank. I don’t know what to say. The only thought that crosses my mind is to get the hell out of here before I am a laughing stock. “Is Ranveer at home?” I finally find my voice even though it’s masked with hurt. She eyes me from top to bottom.

“He is still in bed, snoring. Do you want me to wake him up?”

I shake my head vigorously. “No, it’s nothing important. I am sorry to come here unannounced. His granddad has asked me to drop his coffee.” I lie as I hold out the cup to her.

She takes it from me. “That old man is always babying Ranveer. By the way, I am Nadia, his girlfriend,” she says, flashing her smile which hurts my eyes.

“I... I am… Alisha.”

“Thanks for the coffee, Alisha.”

“You’re welcome. I need to head to work.” Having nothing more to say, I then turn on my heels and sprint to the elevator.

A sob makes it out just as I step out of the elevator, bumping into a hard frame.

“Woah... easy there.”

I gasp at the familiar voice as I look up to see Akshay.

“I am sorry, I was not watching,” my voice cracks.

“What’s wrong, Alisha?” Akshay’s gentle voice queries.

“Ranveer… She… Ranveer has company,” I say, tears brimming in my eyes. And I know I should be completely fine with it, but it does hurt. And this just doesn’t seem as if it would fade away, no matter how hard I try. I am torn between wanting to break off this alliance and going ahead with a blind eye to his lifestyle, even though it causes pain.

“Damn, Ranveer,” Akshay curses. “Come, let’s go somewhere unless you really want to meet him.”
