“This is not the time to mess with me, Alisha,” he growls. My heart palpitates and my palms sweat at the warning in his eyes and voice. “We are leaving,” he says as he grabs my hand and pulls me out of the house to the parking lot.

“Ranveer, listen….” I try to speak, but he cuts me off.

“Not a word till we reach home,” he says, and my mouth zips instantly.

Okay, I know he is infuriated and has a valid reason. I even agree I am at fault for going behind his back. But he doesn’t even give me a chance to explain and is going all alpha on me. My fists clench at my side at his outrageous behaviour. It takes everything in me not to give him a piece of my mind.

Reaching his car, he opens the passenger door for me.

“Get in, Alisha,” he says through clenched teeth.

God, his bossy tone has my own temper skyrocketing. However, one look at his face and I decide that getting in the car is the best option. It wouldn’t be wise to test him, so without another word, I slip into the passenger seat. I close my eyes and take deep breaths, trying to keep my cool. Jumping down each other’s throat isn’t going to fix anything; instead, it will make matters worse.

“Once we reach home, you will explain this little stunt of yours,” he says, the nerves in his jaws twitching as he leans over, his face only inches from my own.

Not trusting my voice, I don’t say anything and nod my head. I sit back, my arms crossed over my chest, and I stare out of the window in complete silence, giving him the time to cool down. He drives at full speed, making the ball of stress in my stomach roll over and over again.

Luckily, we arrive home in about twenty minutes. In no time, he is out of the car and at my side before I even have the chance to unbuckle my seat belt. I give him an annoyed look as he reaches over and unsnaps it, but he ignores even looking at my face. He then takes my arm and leads me inside. Though I try to pull away from him,I am no match for the raging bull in front of me.

He continues to pull me after him, until we reach the living room. He pushes me onto the couch and sends me a look that warns I better not move a muscle.

“Now start speaking up. What the hell was running in that mind of yours?” he roars, towering over me.

“I… I…. I was…” The fury in his eyes makes me shiver and no words come out.

“Goddamn, Alisha!” He bends, caging me, and I press back into the couch. His chest is rising and falling at a rapid speed, and I can feel his hot breath on my face. My pulse speeds up. “You putting your life at risk is not a fucking game for you to play.” He thunders.

“I am… I am sorry,” I mumble.

“You are sorry?” He lets out a humourless laugh and straightens, glaring down at me. “Do you have any idea what this stupid adventure had in store for you? You literally walked yourself into the lion’s den without any hesitation. What if something would have happened to you?” he yells with a mix of fury and anxiety in his voice.

Seeing him agonised makes me feel more guilty than I already am.

I bite my lips nervously. “I overheard Jai’s conversation that he would be at the party.” The scowl on his face deepens. Nonetheless, I am compelled to finish my statement. “I… thought I would find something on him.”

“Why the hell are you obsessed with Jai?” he yells. “Didn’t I tell you that he is clean and you have nothing to worry about?”

I shake my head. “I couldn’t get myself to believe those reports and wanted to check it for myself to be assured,” I say, looking up at Ranveer whose annoyance is still all over his face.

He pulls out his phone from his pants’ back pocket, and I am about to ask what is he up to until he turns the screen to my face that displays an article with a picture of a random party scene. “I think you don’t read the news. So let me enhance your knowledge. There are incidents which take place in these types of parties. I am sure you must have heard the terms like drugs, rape, rave parties.” He swipes with his finger to another article. This time, it has a picture of a girl I don’t recognise. “A close friend’s sister was at one such party, where she was found drugged and raped,” he elaborates. My eyes immediately shoot to his, and I break out in a cold sweat. “I know you like to be strong and take care of yourself, I know you always care for people around you, but you need to….”

“What if Jai is that kind of a person?” I question, interrupting him as my eyes blur with tears. “I am sure he is also involved in these kinds of craps. Let’s go back to the party and find him.” I rise on my feet, but he gently pushes me back down onto the couch.

“He is not there. My guard searched the place.”

I shed a tear in relief and take a moment to gather myself before I mutter, “Maybe you are right about me obsessing over him.”

“Promise me this is the last time you are putting yourself at risk. I almost got a heart attack when I didn’t see you in the bar. Those few minutes of trying to track you down were hell for me.”

“I promise,” I agree, leaving out the part that if ever the situation arises to stand for my loved ones, then I am for sure going to step into the frying pan. The idea of seeing my loved ones hurt makes my heart cry.

“You drive me insane,” he grumbles as he plops on the couch next to me with his head facing the ceiling and his eyes closed.

“I know,” I say, crawling into his lap.

He looks down at me and wraps his arms around me. I place a kiss under his jaw and then rest my head on his chest. We stay like that in silence with just our breathing filling the room for a long time until Ranveer voices his agony.

“You’re priceless to me. Please don’t ever forget that. I fucking love you like crazy.” The emotions in his voice make my heart skip a beat. “The idea of losing you makes me lose my mind,” he growls. “Not now, not ever will I want to lose you,” he snarls, pulling me closer into his arms. “The thought of losing you frightens me more than anything. Please don’t jeopardise your life ever again. Please don’t take my happiness from me.”
