My breath hitches with emotions. “I won’t.”

“I love you, Wifey,” he says as he kisses my head and wraps his arms tighter around me.

There is no place I would rather be than with him, just like this in his arms. We don’t move and stay like this. After a few minutes, his shoulders slump and I realise he has fallen asleep, I too drift to sleep, our bodies humming in silent communication.

Chapter 35

Ranveer

The thought of Alisha getting hurt made me see red. She had no Goddamn reason to ever be in that death trap of a place, and seeing her wandering in that party pushed me over the edge of reason. The moment I stepped out of the meeting at the bar and didn’t find Alisha, my heart skipped a beat. I was about to dial her number demanding where she had disappeared when my mobile beeped with an incoming message from one of my friends who happened to spot Alisha at the same party as he was in. That’s how I got the news that she is at that shit of a place.

The only positive outcome that came out of it was that she agreed to never put herself in any sort of danger henceforth. I am not even sure how the caveman in me will react if she goes back on her promise. I shake my head. No, she won’t. I won’t let her. I need to make sure I up my protection on her. This woman needs to be kept on a watch twenty-four bar seven.

Alisha slightly shifts in my arms. Looking down at my wife, I think about how easy it is to be with her. We’re lying on the couch in the living room with me spooned in behind her, watching the movie. Moving my eyes back to the screen, I soak myself in the feeling of fulfilment and comfort that only she seems to be able to bring in me.

“You know, a girl can get used to all this pampering. You sure know the way to a girl’s heart,” she smiles, and I drop my head down as she places her chin on the back of her hand that’s resting against my chest.

That’s true. Of late, my aim in life seems to be to spoil her rotten, doing everything in my power to make sure that her life is nothing but a happy paradise. Today being no exception, I planned on making it special for her. It’s Sunday evening, and neither of us had work. And I wanted nothing more than to spend our day lazing around the house. I even went to the extent of creating a romantic ambience with all the scented candles, flowers, popcorns, and her favourite snacks. Not wanting any disturbance, I gave my staff off. I just wanted to spend some time with my wife.

“Then lucky you, because all that pampering is reserved exclusively for my wife. The only path my heart knows is to my wife’s heart,” I say, my eyes warm with the love brimming in them. I tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear as her fingers move to my bottom lip. “I never knew that love could be this beautiful until you came into my life. You mean the world to me. I love you so much,” I murmur near her lips. I am about to kiss her when the sound of the doorbell halts me.

“Damn.” I drop my forehead to hers.

Her brows drag together. “Are we expecting guests?”

Lifting my head from hers, my eyes meet hers. “Sorry I forgot to tell you, I invited Rewa and Jai for dinner. I thought seeing them together would help set your mind at ease. Maybe once you interact with him, you will be able to judge him better,” I explain.

Her eyes widen. “You did that for me?” she asks with an expression of awe on her face.

“Just for you, Wifey.” I give a peck on her cheek and then make a sullen face. “But now I am cursing why the hell did I even bother to invite them.” My gaze moves from her eyes to her lips. I draw in a deep breath; definitely a bad idea to invite those killjoys.

She sits up and grabs my face in her hands. “Thanks, it means a lot to me.”

“Anything for you, Sweetheart,” I say as I bend to place a tender kiss on her forehead before rising to my feet and pulling her along with me. “Come, let’s answer the door.”

She nods, and we head for the door. Opening the door, we are greeted by an overexcited Rewa and Jai. The four of us exchange greetings and gather in the living room. Rewa and Jai sit on the couch opposite Alisha and me.

“We brought wine,” Jai says as he lifts the small gift bag that he had in his hands.

“Why don’t you guys pour yourselves some wine while I get some snacks?” Alisha suggests, rising to her feet.

“I will come and help you,” Rewa says as she follows Alisha into the kitchen.

I move my eyes back to Jai and suggest, “Let’s move to the bar.”

“Sounds good, man,” he smiles before we make our way to the mini bar that I have set up near the balcony.

When we step into the room, Jai turns my way. “It’s fucking amazing, man!”

I know what he sees. The sleek wooden shelves displaying the expensive liquor glasses, fancy bottles, and exclusive décor are sure to grab eyeballs. In addition, the dark wood finish pairs perfectly with the chocolate-brown textured accent wall, creating visual depth.

“Let’s open your wine bottle.” Taking the bottle from him, I gesture him to one of the high stools as I go to grab two wine glasses.

He makes himself comfortable on the stool. Pouring in both our glasses, I take my seat next to him.

“Thanks for having us, man. I hardly have any friends in India,” he says before taking a sip of his wine.

I bring my glass to my lips, take a sip, and then look at him, noticing that he seems to be a pretty nice guy. Nothing about him rings warning bells in my head.
