“Come on. Gideon is landing with the helicopter.” He shouted before he yanked off his bulletproof vest and then his t-shirt, slipping them both onto me.

He grabbed me, tossed me over his shoulder before I could protest, and ran, Wyatt doing the same with Beau.

I stared at the chaos behind us, my mind going numb. Austin was alive. Austin was behind it all.

“Get them in quickly. We already have the hospital on alert.” Gideon shouted as we reached the helicopter. The wind from the propeller blades stirred my hair, whipping it across my face.

William sat me in one of the seats and tried to pull my face to look at him, but I shoved him away, needing to see Beau.

His eyes were closed as Zane looked him over, face grim. The helicopter lifted, and I felt William's hands on me.

“Anya. You need to look a me. Are you hurt anywhere?” He asked but I couldn’t stop watching Zane as he cut away Beau's tattered clothes.

My hands tingled, and my vision blurred as I watched Zane begin to do CPR. Beau was dying. He was dying and I couldn’t do anything about it.

“She has gone into shock,” Wyatt said beside me.

I could feel the scream building in my throat as I watched Zane, the determination in his eyes.

“Beau…” I whispered as I tried to reach for him.

“BEAU!” I shouted as William held me back.

“Let Zane work, sweetheart.” He said but I tried to fight him. Desperation clawed at me as I watched Zane’s face turn grim.

No.

“BEAU! Don’t you fucking die on me you asshole! You promised! You promised you would come back. You promised me marriage and children and a happy family!” I shouted as William let me go.

I knelt at Beau’s head as Zane continued compressions.

“I swear to every known god out there, if you die, Beau, I will find a way to bring you back and then kill you myself.” I snarled.

I looked at Zane who refused to look at me, continuing his compressions and blowing in his mouth.

“Beau…” I sobbed, my fingers digging into his hair as I felt the wetness of his blood dripping from the seats he lay across onto my bare leg.

I couldn’t breathe. My world was caving in. It felt like I was falling, and my vision went spotty.

I clung to Beau as I chanted his name and, in the distance, I heard someone shout my name before my world went black.

Forty one

William ~ four weeks later

IglancedatWyattas we waited for the discharge papers to be given to us. Beau was sitting in a wheelchair, death-staring the nurse as she fussed about his medication.

“I get it. Don’t overdose and I will be fine.” He snapped and Wyatt sighed loudly.

“Well Beau, we didn’t bring you back from death only to have you accidentally kill yourself with medications because you were too stubborn to listen.” She snapped and I grinned.

Yep. She was one of the nurses who had to put up with my brother these past four weeks and was tired of his shit too. I looked at Beau who was still a pale color, some of his muscle mass gone from being bedridden.

He had lost so much blood, by the time we arrived at the hospital they wanted to pronounce him dead until Wyatt started ranting and Zane pushed with his cop badge.

By some miracle, they had managed to bring him back, shocking his heart into working again before pumping blood back into him.

Anya had fainted from shock and her earlier concussion, but she had been okay. She spent nearly every day by Beau’s side as they tentatively waited for him to come out of the coma.
