His eyes narrow as if he’s trying to work out my angle. “I don’t trust you,” he murmurs.

“The feeling is mutual.”

I don’t add that I don’t trust myself around him either. But I have a feeling that’s just another thing we might have in common.

His gaze darkens, a smirk tipping the corner of his mouth. “You want to help me, sunshine? Want to let me work off some of this anger?” He stalks toward me, an apex predator about to devour his prey. But Theo doesn’t hold all the power here.

I hold up my hand and he instantly stops, quirking a brow. “I’ll make you a deal,” I say.

“A deal.” He snorts. “I’m not sure you’re in any position to negotiate.”

“Tell me something real and then I’ll help you work off some of that anger.”

“You seriously came here to talk?” His brows pinch with confusion.

“Actually, I came here to listen. You look like you could use a friend, Theo. No ulterior motives. No games. Just a friend.”

He wants to argue. To prove me wrong. It’s right there in his eyes. But he doesn’t.

Instead, he runs a hand through his hair and blows out a steady breath.

“You want to know something real, sunshine?” I nod, and his smirk creeps back into place. “I do this. I talk and you listen. And then, I get to do whatever I want to you.”

Shit.

I hadn’t anticipated this. But then Theo has a way of making it hard to think straight.

“Scared, sunshine?” He chuckles but I see the flash of vulnerability in his eyes.

He needs this.

He needs me.

And there’s power in that. That’s something I don’t want to acknowledge.

I lift my chin in defiance, giving a little shake of my head. “I’m not scared of you, Theodore Ashworth.”

He steps forward, erasing the space between us, sending my heart into a wild frenzy.

“Want to know a secret?” he asks, so close I can almost taste him. And then he utters three little words that make my head spin. “You should be.”

THEO

Her scent makes my mouth water. My need for her makes every nerve ending in my body tingle with desire. But what she wants from me…

The truth.

How could I possibly trust her with something as ugly as my life?

She’d use it against me in a heartbeat.

From the second that Raine turned up here, all she’s done is taunt me and strike out.

I might not have proof or have figured out how she made it happen. But deep down, I know it’s her.

So giving her this kind of ammunition… bad fucking idea.
