“You can hang out with Marcus and leave Theo to me, okay?”

Millie lunges for me, throwing her arms around me and hugging me tight. “Thank you. I knew you’d understand, you’re the best Raine.”

My heart swells as I hug her back. I might be hopelessly in love with her big brother, but Millie also holds a special place in my heart, and I’m so happy that I get to be around to watch her grow.

“Can we go to class now?” I ask, gently shoving her off me.

“Isn’t Theo walking you?”

“I imagine he’ll be here soon, but I don’t want to make a big scene.”

It’s bad enough that everyone stares and whispers whenever I go down to the kitchen. But I keep reminding myself their judgement can’t hurt me.

Not after what I’ve survived.

I grab my bag and follow Millie out of my room. Sure enough a couple of girls pass us in the hallway and immediately drop their voices to a whisper.

“Ignore them,” Millie says.

“Oh, I am.”

We head out of the dorms and start walking toward the main building.

“You know, my brother is going to lose his shit when he realises— Uh-oh.”

I look over just in time to see Theo storming toward us.

“I thought we agreed to meet at your dorm room?” he barks.

“Millie showed up, so I figured we’d get a head start.”

“Sunshine…” The warning in his voice sends shivers down my spine.

“Relax, I’m fine.” I press my hand to his chest and lean up to kiss him. As I pull away, he anchors his arms around my waist and crashes his mouth down on mine, stealing the air from my lungs.

“And that’s my cue. See you later, Raine. Big brother.” Millie takes off, leaving me completely at Theo’s mercy.

“I should punish you for this.” He pins me with a dark look.

“Mmm, what do you have in mind?” I smirk.

“You, me, and some time in the basement.”

“So eager to tie me up, Teddy?”

“Fucking desperate.” He touches his head to mine, inhaling a deep breath.

“You seem nervous,” I say, my chest tightening. Because if anyone should be nervous about what the day will hold, it’s me.

“The only thing I’m nervous about is losing my shit with some arsehole who thinks they can talk shit about my girl.”

“Your girl, huh? Sounds serious.” I take Theo’s arm and pull it over my shoulder, tucking myself into his side as we head toward the sixth form building.

“If anyone says anything…”

“I can handle it, Theo. I promise.”

“I just don’t want anything else to scare you away.”
