“She okay?” Theo asks.

“Do you think they’ll ever get their shit together?”

“Who? Abi and Elliot? Un-fucking-likely.”

“But they would be so good together.”

“Sunshine, don’t start playing matchmaker.” Theo grazes his mouth over mine. “It never ends well.”

“So… Now wouldn’t be a good time to tell you that I think Millie has her first boyfriend.”

“What the fuck did you just say?” He rears back, glaring at me.

“And this is exactly why she chose to talk to me about it and not you.”

“She… What the fuck is happening right now, Storm?”

I roll my eyes at his theatrics. “Marcus is a nice kid.”

“Marcus. And what class is Marcus in so I can hunt the little fucker down and—”

“Stop.” I press my finger to his lips. “Millie is almost thirteen. It’s going to happen eventually. She deserves to have friends. To experience first love. And she deserves to have a big brother who lets her make her own choices.”

“But I—”

“No, Theo. You need to stand down on this one. I promised her I’d handle you.”

“Handle me?” His eyes darken. “And exactly how do you plan onhandlingme, sunshine?”

“I can think of a few different ways.” My mouth twists with amusement. “But you’ve got to promise not to bulldoze them.”

“I don’t like it, Raine. I don’t—”

“You don’t have to like it, but you have to accept it. Millie deserves that much.”

His expression falls and I know I’ve won this battle. “Yeah, okay. But I want to meet him, and I will be laying down some ground rules.”

“I would expect nothing less. Just promise not to kill him with your bare hands, okay? I don’t need you getting arrested. I kind of like having you around.”

“You like me, sunshine?” Theo smirks and the heat in his gaze sends a shiver through me.

“You’re okay.”

“Okay?” He barks out a rough laugh. “Fuck, I love you.”

“You love me, Ashworth?”

“Yeah, I do. Hopelessly. Desperately. Unconditionally.” He steps into me, so I have to crane my neck to look at him. What I see there leaves me breathless.

Theo might be cocky and cold and complicated, but once he lets you into his inner circle, you quickly realise he loves with his entire heart.

And I never want to lose this feeling.

“You’re mine, Raine,” he whispers. “And I’m never letting you go.”
