“I like you, Raine.”

“What the fuck—”

“You’re not afraid of us, are you?”

“I’ve met worse boys than you in my life.”

“You’re off the hook,” he says.

“Just like that?” My brow arches. “I don’t buy it.”

“I saidyou’reoff the hook. But lover boy here”—his eyes slide to Theo—“can reimburse us all for any damages.”

“No, that’s not—”

“I’ll do it.” Theo doesn’t miss a beat.

“Thought so.” Elliot smirks. “I’ll send you the invoice.”

The two of them share a long look full of tension. But I’m still gawking at Elliot. He’s letting me off the hook because of Theo.

“But no more games,” Elliot says to me, and I don’t miss the warning laced through his voice.

I nod, not trusting myself to speak.

Theo wraps his arm around me and drops a kiss on my head. “Could have been worse,” he mutters.

Reese and Oakley choose that moment to arrive, breaking the lingering tension between us. Oakley dives for Tally, the two of them kissing loud enough to earn them a few disgruntled looks.

“Seriously,” Liv tsks when she reaches the table. “Can’t you do that in private somewhere?”

“Jealous, babe?” Reese tugs her down on his lap. “What did we miss?”

“Theo is paying for Raine’s handiwork.”

“Oh shit.” He laughs, slamming his hand down on the table. “So it was you.”

“Surprise.” I force a smile.

“Shit, Ashworth, what did you do to her if she had to go after our cars like that?”

“I…” Theo stutters over his words.

“Let’s move on, yeah,” I suggest.

“The important thing is they figured out their differences.” Tally beams, far too invested in the whole thing. “And in time for Theo’s birthday party.”

“Don’t remind me,” he grumbles.

“Do you have something to wear?” she asks. “Something to impress Theo’s dad?”

“She doesn’t have to worry about impressing anyone but me.” He wraps a possessive arm around my waist, tugging me closer.

“I’m not using your credit card to buy a dress,” I whisper, twisting around a little to look him in the eye.

“You’ll buy a dress.”

“Are you always this cocky?”
