“I won’t cause any trouble.”

“No.” Theo pins her with a dark look. “No parties.”

“Fine.” Millie stands, the chair legs scraping across the tile. “I’m going for a shower.”

“You need me to show you where everything is?”

“No, I got it.”

“I’m heading upstairs,” Tally says. “I’ll show you where the fresh towels are.”

Millie nods, following Tally toward the stairs.

“Fuck,” Theo breathes, rubbing his hand down the back of his neck.

“She’s okay,” I whisper. “She’s going to be okay.”

“Raine is right, man.” Oakley pipes up. “Little sis is going to be fine with you in her corner. I still can’t believe your old man— Ow, what the fuck was that for?” He rubs his arm and Reese chuckles.

“This is an Anthony Ashworth free zone, remember?” Reese offers Theo a small nod. “But if you ever want to talk about it, we’re here.”

“It’s done. He got what he deserved, and Millie and I can move on with our lives now. I’ve got all I need right here.” Theo squeezes the back of my neck and guilt bubbles inside of me.

“I still can’t believe Dad was in on—”

“Oak!” Liv snaps. “Can you shut up for a second?”

“What? I’m just saying—”

“Okay, Beckworth, let’s go.” Reese nudges his chair.

“Go, go where?”

“Let’s hit the gym. You still haven’t managed to beat me on the free weights.”

“Because you’re a fucking savage,” Oakley mumbles, dragging himself up.

“Maybe you need a little motivation. Liv let me fuck her—”

“Reese, oh my God.” She gives him an indignant glare.

His laughter fills the room but I’m not focusing on their little spat. I’m too focused on the quiet boy beside me.

“You okay?” I ask Theo. His eyes darken as he stares at me.

“That’s my cue,” Elliot says, and I’m vaguely aware of him leaving the table too.

Their voices get quieter as they leave the room, leaving us alone.

“Come here.” Theo pushes his chair back slightly and tugs on my hand. I stand and go to him, letting him pull me down on his lap so that I’m straddling his thighs.

He studies me for a second, staring at me like he can’t believe this is real.

Can’t believe that I’m real.

It’s such a heady feeling, one I want to treasure. To feel every time he looks at me.

“Are you okay, really?”
