“I’m fine.”

I can do this.

I just have to smile and pretend.

Smile and pretend.

Easy.

But Millie’s brow furrows and she moves closer as Tally leaves us to join the girls. “Abi?”

“I’m fine,” I reiterate. “How are you?”

“I’m good. Fine.” There’s a hint of sarcasm in her voice. “Theo is being a total pain in my arse about Marcus.”

“He’s your big brother. It’s his job.”

“Yeah, well my big brother needs to back the hell off. I like Marcus. I like him a lot. If Theo ruins?—”

“He won’t ruin it.” Raine joins us, slinging her arm around Millie’s shoulder. “I won’t let him. It’s good to see you.” She turns her attention on me.

“You too.” I move past them and make myself comfortable in one of the huge leather armchairs.

Every time a new cohort of Heirs move into the Chapel, they get to decorate the place to their tastes. But Elliot and the boys really did a great job. The place is a storm of black, dark grey, and silver. It’s creepy and gothic, yes, but there’s something alluring about it.

I’ve always liked it here. Despite feeling completely out of my depth.

“So did we decide? Pizza or Chinese?” Raine asks.

“Pizza,” Tally pulls out her phone as she sinks into the plush leather sofa. “Usual?”

The girls all nod. Because this is just another normal Friday night for them. They live here now. They have routines and traditions.

They have a life together.

A found family.

“So Abs,” Liv says. “Ready to spill the beans about Ethan?”

“There’s nothing to spill.”

“But you’ve been hanging out a lot.” She glances at Tally who subtly shakes her head.

“More like he follows me around and won’t take no for an answer.”

“He hasn’t tried anything, has he?”

“No, I didn’t mean… It’s not like that.”

“Babe,” Raine tsks. “It’s always like that. He likes you.”

“I don’t think so. I mean, why would he?”

They all look at me like I’ve lost my mind.

“What do you mean?” Tally asks softly.

“Well, I’m… I’m me. And he’s gorgeous.”
