“Show me your baby. I’m absolutely dying to see it.”

“Come on.” He linked our fingers together and led me into the lobby.

The moment I stepped inside, I was overcome. This was a sensory overload that wasn’t just sight, but also smell and feel and sound. There was something to gaze at in every direction—the floor that resembled the seabed, the ceiling that was cut in the shape of waves, the lighting that looked like coral and fish. Every surface—even the walls, the texture, and the furniture—only added to the theme.

Every time I took a breath, I smelled the beach. My ears were filled with the lightness of crashing crests, and the sparkling reflections in the tiles and accents made me feel like the sun was touching my skin.

“Oh my God, Macon.” My voice came out like an exhale. “I don’t even have words to describe this.” I couldn’t stop taking it all in, noticing something new each time I scanned the area. “This is the most spectacular room I’ve ever been in.”

“You think so?”

I turned toward him. “Are you for real?” I laughed. “This is paradise—and I live here. I work at the best hotel on Kauai—well, the best one before this one opens—so I know nothing like this exists on the island. Your guests are going to die when they see this.”

I needed to touch him. I needed him to feel how serious I was. I rested my hand on his beard.

“When people on the mainland fantasize about the Hawaiian Islands, this is what they think of. This dream you designed. And you’ve done it. You’ve created a true-to-life fantasy.” I released his hand but kept the other on his face. “Now, show me the rest—the pool and spa and restaurants, all of it—and then I have one final request.”

He licked across his lips, as though he was already reading my mind. “What would that be?”

“I want you to take me to your room.”

Brooklyn

I just finished my last final. Macon, I’m officially done with college. I don’t know whether to cry or scream.

Me

Save the screaming for when you’re with me. ;)

I’m so fucking happy for you. You’ve busted your ass these last few weeks. You’d better have the biggest smile on your face right now because I have one for you.

Brooklyn

I do, and it’s huge.

My parents will be here in a few hours. My sisters are decorating the whole place. I’m overwhelmed with all the things.

Me

I can’t wait to meet them.

Brooklyn

I know we planned a dinner for tomorrow night to officially celebrate my graduation, but if you’re free this evening, I’d love for you to come over. Mom insists on cooking, so the whole fam will just be hanging here.
