Dream about them.

Before I knew it, she’d be blowing up my phone, the way I wanted her to.

I just had to show her more of who I was and what she’d be getting if she was with me and the life we’d be living.

Together.

As I mashed our lips, my tongue gradually slid in, circling hers, reminding her of what it would feel like if I was doing this between her legs.

She felt it because the second my tongue lifted and lowered, like a fin, her arms wrapped around me, and I knew I had her.

In this moment, I could do absolutely anything I wanted to her.

But instead of taking things further, I pulled back. I locked our eyes. And I said, “Get home safely.”

She looked up and said nothing.

I’d surprised her.

And, fuck, I liked that.

“Now?” she gasped.

I reached down to her ass, squeezing it before I gently slapped it. “Yes. Go.”

She unraveled her arms from my waist, and they dropped to her sides. “Okay.” She swallowed. “Yeah, you’re right. I should go.” She was full of raging emotion. So much so that she was almost panting.

She took her time unpeeling her body from mine, taking a step back, and made her way over to her car. She stood outside the driver’s door, fumbling in her bag until she found her keys. And even when she got into the seat, she didn’t hurry off. She rolled down the windows and checked her phone before finally driving away.

I waited until she was out of sight before I got into my SUV, and as I began to head toward the hotel, I called Cooper.

“Dude, it’s three in the fucking morning. This’d better be good,” Cooper barked in a deep, raspy tone.

I’d woken him up.

Shit.

I always forgot about the time difference between Hawaii and LA.

“Sorry, buddy. Look at it this way, if you stay up for another hour, you can hit the gym early and get a solid head start on work today.”

“Fuck that and fuck you for even suggesting it.” He yawned. “Tell me why you’re calling so I can go back to bed.”

I turned at the light, seeing the glow from the hotel ahead. “She specializes in change management. She’s even getting her Six Sigma certification after she graduates in a couple of months.”

“Wait …” There was rustling in the background, which told me he was probably sitting up in bed and turning on the light. “We’re talking about the chick, right? The one you’ve been hooking up with?”

“Brooklyn.”

“Yes, that one.” His tone was getting a little higher and louder, and I could hear the excitement. “The one you’re fucking head over heels for.”

“Jesus, Cooper, this isn’t why I called you.”

“I’m just making sure we’re on the same page.” He laughed. “So, you’re telling me this”—he paused—“because, I assume, you either offered her a job or you want to.”

“You’re correct and that job will be within my new department.”

I slowed and pulled into the valet and disconnected the Bluetooth, holding my phone against my ear. When the valet opened my door, I handed him the fob, and I walked inside the lobby.
