Kristie frowns, having no memory of Sienna.

“She’s a doctor. She checked you over for us when we got back here last night.”

“Oh,” Kristie says. “I’m assuming I didn’t get a clean bill of health.”

“Pretty sure she’s seen worse,” Aubrey offers.

“Anyway, I brought you a change of clothes. Didn’t think you’d want to put that back on,” Aubrey says, eyeing the heap of dirty fabric on the floor. “Did you want me to take and burn it or…”

“That would be great,” Kristie agrees.

“Do you have a place here?” Aubrey asks. “I can go and get anything you have.”

Kristie thinks for a moment before shaking her head.

“No. It’s okay.”

“It’s okay, KK. Whatever you need, we can get it before we leave.”

She lets out a pained sigh. “I don’t have anything worth saving.”

My heart aches for my little sister.

“Anyone you want to say goodbye to?” Aubrey asks. “We can organize that.”

“Lee,” Kristie whispers.

“We can take her with us,” I offer, still trying to figure out who she is.

“She won’t come,” Kristie says sadly. “She might hate this place, but she hates Harrow Creek more. She’d never?—”

“She’s from the Creek?” I ask.

“Yeah, don’t you remember her? She was my best friend at school.”

“Haylee?” I ask, feeling stupid for not figuring it out earlier. “Shit.”

“Yeah. She’s…” Kristie sighs. “If I thought she’d come, I’d try, but I know she won’t.”

“We can talk to her. Or send the guys to kidnap her,” Aubrey offers.

Kristie falls silent. “Maybe later if…”

“If what?” I ask.

“If I can do this, maybe she’ll be able to see that there really is another way.”

“You will do this,” I assure her, placing the brush on the side and grabbing the cup I’ve been using to rinse her hair out. “We are going to do this.”

She nods, but she doesn’t agree.

I get it, I really do. But I need a little bit of hope here.

“Well, if and when the time comes, just say the word. Those cunts aren’t the only ones capable of moving people around unnoticed,” Aubrey says fiercely. “The guys are ordering dinner. They want to know if you have a preference.”

“KK?” I ask.

She shakes her head.
