If we turn up to an ambush or to find that we’re too late…

All the air rushes out of my lungs as poison drips through my veins.

My mind is filled with images of that happy, smiling little girl. She had no idea about the darkness that surrounded her. She was just happy to be alive. She didn’t care that she lived in a trailer, or that Sheila didn’t have a lot of money.

She had love, food, and warmth. It’s all she wanted. All she needed.

Reid pulls the truck to a stop a little down the street from the apartment complex as another car stops a little farther down and kills the engine.

Twisting around in his seat, Reid looks between the three of us before focusing on me.

“I know you want to do this, and none of us are going to stop you. But… do you really want to see him… them?” he asks, concern obvious in his eyes.

“Yes,” I state confidently. “I have a request though.”

“Shoot.”

“We’re not killing him tonight.” All three of them rear back a little.

“Hurt him as much as you like, but we’re taking him home with us.”

Following my line of thought, Reid’s lips pull up in a smirk.

“Keep talking, Pet,” he muses.

“I think he needs to check into the basement. After everything he’s done, it’s the least of what he deserves.”

“I knew there was a reason I liked you.” Reaching out, Reid twists his fingers in my black hoodie and drags me toward him.

His lips find mine instantly and he plunges his tongue into my mouth, embarking on a filthy kiss.

Someone knocks on the window, but he refuses to let me go.

“Officer Norton,” JD teases, letting me know who’s there.

“Are you…” His voice trails off as he must take in what’s happening. “Are you ready?”

“He still in there?” Mav asks.

“Yeah. The others have gone around the back. We’re taking the front.”

Finally, Reid releases me, allowing me to sit back into my seat.

“Alana,” Brody greets.

“Hi,” I whisper, my cheeks heating a little.

He studies me for a beat. I start to think he’s going to attempt to persuade me to sit this one out, but thankfully, he thinks better of it before his lips part.

“Right, well… shall we?” JD asks.

“Give us a minute,” Reid demands before putting the window up and shutting Brody out.

“If Kurt is there?—”

“He’s there. Brody isn’t fucking with us,” Mav argues.

“If he’s there,” Reid continues as if Mav never said a word, “then he’s going to expect the three of us.”
