He shoots me another glare, but he doesn’t say anything.

“No?” I echo.

“Exactly. No. None of you deserve it,” she states, placing her hands on her hips and looking between the three of us. “Do you have any idea how I felt watching that house go up?”

“What?” Reid roars. “You weren’t meant to— Aubrey.” He growls, his voice dangerously low.

There’s movement inside the living room before a confident, gives-no-shit-about-anything, Aubrey appears in the doorway.

“They blew early,” she explains. “How the fuck was I meant to know? I was about to tell her and…” She makes two little explosions with her hands. “Boom.”

Reid scrubs his hand down his face.

“Fucking hell,” he mutters.

“S’all good, though. You all survived, I see. No harm done.”

“There is something fucking wrong with you,” I state.

She looks me up and down, her top lip curling.

“That’s rich. Any chance you could cover that up? Alana might be all over it, but I could really do without it. Thanks.” She smirks while jerking her chin in the direction of my dick.

“Alana isn’t all over anything right now, thanks to you.”

Her chest puffs and I brace for what’s going to follow.

“And that is my fault, how? I held up my end of the deal. She’s here, and she’s safe, exactly as requested.”

“For the record, I thought it was a really fucking bad idea, Doll. But these assholes out voted me,” Mav pipes up, stepping around Reid to pull Alana into his arms.

His movements are slow, showing just how much pain he’s in after our less-than-glamorous escape from that basement.

“I wanted to tell you everything, babe,” he says, ducking low and resting his brow against hers. “We’re a team, and I hated?—”

“I can’t listen to this,” Aubrey announces before slipping around the couple and barging past Reid. “You got alcohol in this place, Harris?”

“He fucking better,” Griff agrees, following her toward the kitchen and leaving the four of us alone to deal with our issue.

Reaching up, Alana brushes her hips against his.

“Hey,” I complain.

Spinning in his arms, her angry glare moves between me and Reid.

“You fucked up,” she informs us.

“You want to do this together, then you need to start acting like it.

“Yes, I’m a woman. But I’m not fucking weak. You think I couldn’t handle what you all just went through?

“Let me fucking tell you right now, that I could. A million times over.

“Anything would have been better than watching that house blow while I thought you were all sitting around the dining table with a fucking beer.” Her eyes fill with tears as she remembers.

“I thought you died. All of you. Literally before my eyes. I—” She cuts herself off and sucks in a deep breath.

“We do this together or we don’t do it at all,” she warns ominously.
