He’s been stripped and searched, I know that much. The guys weren’t risking him having any kind of wire.

“Not feeling very chatty today, are you, Kurt?” JD taunts. “You probably think that by keeping quiet, we won’t get the answers you think we need. But that would make you a very, very naïve man.”

“We already know where Kristie is,Dad.We know where Victor is,” I lie. Although, I suspect at least one of us in the room knows more.

Sure. I have no idea about our mom, but I came to terms with that a long time ago.

“There really isn’t much more you can offer us. All of this…” I say, gesturing to his current situation, “is just something for us to do with our time. We could have killed you yesterday. But that would have been too easy. Why kill someone when you can make their life a living hell instead, isn’t that your motto?”

I’ve no idea what I said that hit a nerve, but something did because I finally get a response.

“You’re lying,” he snarls.

I smile. “Am I?”

Our eye contact holds. There’s a part of me that wants to cower like a little girl, like I always used to do when he came within touching distance of me. But there’s a bigger part that stands tall and strong.

It helps that I’m surrounded by my men. They give me the strength I need to stand up to the man who tried to break me. Hell, he almost did.

“There was a time when I thought you’d ruined my life. After Kristie left, I considered ending it all,” I confess. It’s something I’ve never told the men surrounding me and despite the fact I’m not looking at them, I feel their reactions to those words, JD’s especially. “But I couldn’t. Not when I knew that Kristie was out there somewhere. Not when I knew that you’d continue without me like I never existed.

“Mav not only saved my life the night he found me, but he gave me a life. A life that you should have provided. He loved me, he cared for me. He did all these things I never thought were possible.”

“What are you trying to say?” he mutters, losing patience with my tirade.

“That you are a failure, Kurt Winson. You are nothing but a corrupt, abusive, despicable, human being.”

He scoffs.

“You really think I’m lying?”

Holding my hand out, I wait for JD to put his cell in my hand before I thrust it at my father.

“Unlike you, I’m not a fucking liar,” I bellow, letting him see the live feed of his youngest daughter.

I expect him to be shocked. What I’m not prepared for is him to throw his head back and laugh.

Fury rages through me and before I know what I’m doing, I’ve pulled my arm back and closed my fist.

I put every single bit of strength I have into that punch and I fly forward, slamming my fist into his face hard enough to shatter his nose.

Finally, he reacts, groaning in pain as blood explodes, covering both of us.

“Where is she, Dad?” I scream in his face. “Where is our mother?”

His evil smirk is barely visible behind the torrent of blood, but I catch it.

“Remember that rose bush you used to tend to like it was that child you can’t have?” he sneers, spitting blood everywhere. My nostrils flare as I fight to keep a hold of my emotions. “I only planted it to cover up where I buried her body.”

“No, you’re lying.”

“Am I?” he snarks, repeating my words from earlier.

“Tighter,” I demand, refusing to lift my eyes from his.

Reid complies almost instantly and Dad’s eyes widen as the barbs dig into his throat deeper.

“How long until he bleeds out like this?” I ask.
