I think about my brothers, Cash, and the others we’ve left behind. They’re all more than capable of holding down the fort while we have our little coup. I have to just trust that they can keep things running smoothly, ready for when I finally walk back in through the double doors of the clubhouse and take charge.

A smile threatens to spread across my lips.

Many will be more than happy with the change of leadership. There will be others, though. The older, old-fashioned members will be coveting Victor’s rule.

They’re the Hawks we don’t need. And if they show even an ounce of disrespect toward me and my family, my team, then they’ll be wiped out without a second thought.

From the second I take charge, things are changing.

Everything is changing.

And that change starts tonight.

My fingers grip the wheel tighter and my foot presses harder on the gas.

“Look out,” JD taunts from the back. “Someone is out for blood tonight.”

MAVERICK

The tension in the car and the need for violence and death tonight is oppressive as Reid takes a road around the back of the location the meeting between Sidney Hyde and Victor has been set up.

We’re deep in Devil’s territory. I’ve no idea where we are and I suspect that Reid and JD are thinking the exact same thing as Reid pulls the truck to a stop deep in the undergrowth.

“We need to cut through those trees. The warehouse is behind.”

JD nods as Alana sits up straighter in the passenger seat, trying to search through the darkness surrounding us for the building.

“Kai should have left a door open for us. He’s going to meet us inside.”

“We hide in the shadows and wait.”

“The second they arrive, the door will be locked behind them and the show can begin,” he repeats.

JD leans forward, wrapping his hand supportively around Reid’s shoulder.

“We’ve got this, man. We’ve been over the plan a million times today. Victor fucking Harris is dying tonight.”

“If he shows.”

We still don’t have any intel on where he, Kurt, and my father are hiding out. Reid’s brothers have no idea, nor does anyone else we risked reaching out to. They’ve turned themselves into ghosts.

All we can hope is that we’ve managed to do the same thing.

“Aubrey is here. She’s waiting for their car. She’s going to put a tracker on it and then try to follow them. Trackers have done fuck all this far so I doubt that’ll work although she’s promised this one is?—”

Alana reaches over and squeezes his thigh.

“We know, Reid. Everything is going to be okay.”

Reid blows out a long breath and rests his head back.

The weight of what we’re potentially about to do presses down on my shoulders, and I’m sure the others feel exactly the same.

I keep my eyes on him as he sucks in a deep calming breath. It wasn’t so long ago when I’d have said that Reid Harris was unshakable. A coldhearted, blood and power-thirsty cunt like his father.

But I was wrong.
