My stomach knots.

Fuck. I hope Aubrey got her out safely.

There was a chance they were watching the house, and if they were, they’d have seen both of them leave. They’d know that they weren’t inside when the house blew. But we had no intel to suggest they were watching, and Aubrey was confident.

I just have to trust her.

Easier said than done right now.

She brought Jude into this situation. She trusted him and he fucked us over big time.

“Put your fucking foot down,” JD complains as we make our way down the secluded trail where the car was hidden.

I don’t argue, I can’t. I want to be back on familiar ground as well.

We’ve designed that house precisely as we want it. We know the security is tight, even more so after Mav proved that it was lacking not so long ago. Plus, we’ve got enough weapons and ammunition to flatten all of Harrow Creek, should it be necessary to get those motherfuckers.

Pressing my foot on the gas, we bump over the rough terrain. Mav grunts in pain, sitting forward so his back isn’t resting against the seats.

“You good, man?” I ask, shooting him a quick look.

“Just get us back,” he demands. “Never thought I’d be looking forward to stepping foot inside your place again.”

“Just goes to show,” JD starts. “You never really know what’s around the corner.”

ALANA

Aubrey thankfully does as I’m expecting her to and after taking the scenic route back into Harrow Creek, I’m assuming to reduce the risk of being spotted, she takes an even more hidden entrance to Reid’s manor that I’ve never seen before.

The second I see the outline of the haunting building against the darkness of the moody sky behind, I breathe a sigh of relief.

At some point during my previous stay here, this place became something of a safe haven for me.

Yes, the men living under its roof were capable of causing me all kinds of pain.

But while no one knew where I was, it meant the monsters of my past couldn’t get to me.

But is that going to still be the case?

They got to us in a place we were meant to be safe.

Where do we go from here?

Aubrey pulls around the back of the building, the rain lashing against us. Neither of us are wearing leathers so we’re soaked through.

Although it could be worse.

So much worse.

The trail before us dips and I discover a whole row of underground garages that I didn’t know existed.

It makes me wonder just how much of this impressive place I’ve actually explored.

Of course I was always curious to go snooping farther than the main living quarters. It never escaped my attention that the building was bigger than the rooms we lived in, but also… there was a part of me that didn’t want to know.

What if the basement was bigger than I thought? What if Reid is keeping even more pets here than I initially believed?”
