“All of it. We’re related…and my school…your business…our parents…just give me space.”

I back away. My brothers have stepped on either side of us, and also leave space. Moonlight shines on her wind-kissed cheeks.

Carl says, “We can work this out.”

“There’s nothing for you to work out. You’re already successful. We’re in totally different parts of our lives. I’m the one floundering around. I can’t even follow my dad’s rules correctly: finish high school, get a degree, establish my career. I’m not like all of you.”

“Frank’s rules…are they what you want?” Carl asks.

“I don’t want to throw my life away. There are tons of people who would love to have their college paid for. But it’s not what I want…going to college, I mean.”

This is huge. Our parents have no idea. I’ve heard them talk about Bianca’s failures, and it irritates me to no end. The only way she’s failing is by not pursuing her own path. She’s trying to please everyone else. The struggle resonates deeply. I love keeping the peace, but there are limits.

“Being a mother isn’t throwing your life away.”

“I know that, but they want me to be successful. Like Mark said, I should be fitting kids into my career, which means I need the career first.”

“I’m sorry, Bianca. I thought you wanted that.” Mark sounds truly sorry.

I shove Mark out of the way. “Success is about knowing what you want so you can strive for it and celebrate when you get there. I’ll get you pregnant right now if that’s what you want. Fuck what everyone else thinks.”

Carl and Mark say something but I’m only listening to Bianca.

The wind catches her dress, blowing it into her face. My cock is rock hard at the sight of her bare legs that wrapped around my head so sinfully last night, and her panties…damn…her virginity. My balls ache with the need to fill her with babies.

She fusses to get her skirt down, but I take it as the universe saying, “Get her clothes out of the way. Time to get her pregnant.”

Carl adds logic to the equation. “Hold on. Before we start talking about pregnancy, we should clarify what this is. Mark, are you just in this for fun, or for everything?”

“I’m older than you two. I saw Mom’s relationships. They were perfect until they weren’t. Commitment changes people. Why can’t we play this out slower?”

“He’s right,” Bianca says.

“There’s not a single doubt in my body that I’ll do whatever it takes to make you happy, Bianca.” I don’t need time.

“What do you most want out of life?” she asks me.

“You’re not going to let me say, ‘pleasing you’, are you?”

“No.” She’s more firm than normal.

I don’t understand why she won’t relent. Is my brother’s indecision the hold up? “What I want doesn’t matter. Let’s just trust our hearts. What does your heart say, Mark?”

He paces. “Life is bigger than gut reactions. Our parents would disown us. They’d yank the funding from the app. We’d probably get kicked out of the penthouse.”

Carl cuts in. “That’s all true. So you have to ask yourself, what’s more valuable to you, our parents’ approval or Bianca’s happiness?”

“That’s a loaded question. Of course, I want Bianca to be happy. But the three of us can’t agree on most shit. How are we supposed to make a relationship with a single woman work?”

Carl offers, “We’ll figure it out as we go. I like a plan, probably more than anyone else, but if we wait, we might lose her.”

“I don’t want to hurt her,” Mark calls over his shoulder as he leaves. “I have to make a call.

Bianca points at him. “This is what happens when I’m involved. Everything gets messed up. You guys are arguing because of me and my silly fantasy that we could have something. That you would bid on me at the auction, and we’d end up with a happily ever after.”

“Your fantasy?”

“That’s why I sent you the invitation.”
