“Brett’s sister, Jade, and her husband, Phillip, will be here tomorrow for dinner. She’s eager to meet you,” Jennifer told her.

As they sat there talking, JoJo discovered she liked Jennifer Watkins. Nothing fake about the woman. She was down to earth.

JoJo saw Brett enter the room carrying his duffle bag, and Michael stood beside him with her suitcases.

“Ready to go upstairs, JoJo?” Brett asked her.

She pushed to her feet. “I am. Jennifer, thank you so much for inviting me.”

“You’re more than welcome, honey. We’ll see you two a little later. Have a nice nap.”

“Thanks, Mom.” Brett nodded for JoJo to follow him.

“I can take those, Michael.” JoJo reached for the cases.

“No, you will not. I’ll carry them up for you.”

JoJo smiled. “Now I know where Brett gets his manners. Thank you.”

She followed them up the stairs and bit back a yawn. Not that long of a trip from Clifton to Helena, but they got very little sleep last night and got up early to leave.

She followed them into a bedroom with a king-size four-poster bed and matching furniture.

“It’s a beautiful room.”

“It was mine, but Mom changed it to a nice spare room.”

“How many bedrooms?”

“Six, along with seven bathrooms and a half bath downstairs.”

“It’s just gorgeous.”

“I’ll show you around later, darlin’. I’m ready for a nap.”

Michael set her cases down. “You two get some rest. We’ll see you later.”

“Okay. Thanks, Dad.”

Michael nodded and walked out, closing the door behind him. JoJo stared at Brett.

“I am tired.” She yawned.

“Me too. Someone kept me up all night.”

“Excuse me? I think you have that backward.”

Brett chuckled. “I’ll take half of the blame.”

JoJo grinned, sat on the bed, and took off her shoes. Then she crawled up the bed, placed her head on the pillow, watched Brett remove his boots, and lay beside her. He pulled the quilt at the end of the bed up over them.

JoJo slid close to him. He wrapped his arms around her, placed his cheek on her head, and they fell asleep.

Chapter Eleven

Thanksgiving morning arrived with a snowstorm, but Brett loved it. He stood in the living room staring out the front picture window, watching the snow softly fall and cover everything.

“Hi,” JoJo said from behind him as her arms wrapped around his waist.
