“How did you meet him?”

“He came into the bakery. I’m sorry, but I have to take a shower. He’s picking me up at six.”

“Oh, my. I’ll let you go. Have a good time. We love you.”

“I love you both. Bye.”

JoJo quickly disconnected because she knew how her mother was. She’d keep asking questions, and JoJo would never get ready in time. She entered the shower, turned it on, stripped off her clothes, and stepped into the stall. After washing her hair and body, she opened the glass door, grabbed a towel for her hair, and then one for the rest of her.

She tugged her robe on, unwrapped the towel around her hair, and blew it dry. It flowed around her shoulders. Then she picked up a bottle of Navy blue nail polish, sat on the side of the tub, and painted her toenails.

At six, Brett drove into the apartment complex and parked. He reached for the yellow rose on the passenger seat, opened his door, and stepped out. He looked around and saw a plaque on the front of the building stating the numbers of the tenants.

When he saw JoJo’s, he strolled to the stairwell, climbed the steps, found her door, and knocked. Damn, he was nervous.

A few minutes later, the door opened, and he almost swallowed his tongue. She was gorgeous. Her blonde hair flowed around her shoulders. He ran his eyes down over her blue dress. It ended a little above her knees and her legs…Damn. He almost groaned when he saw her blue toenails, but bit his lip when he saw the tiny rose tattoo above her right ankle. Then he raised his eyes to hers.

“You look beautiful. This is for you.” He handed her the rose.

“Thank you. I love roses.” She smiled at him.

“I guess you could get reservations, huh?”

He grinned when she laughed.

“Yes. I told you I would.”

“I’m glad. Nevada said the restaurant has great food.”

“Yes, it does. Let me put this in the fridge. Then we can go.”

“Yes, ma’am. I’m starving. I like that tattoo.”

“Thanks. I’m hungry too. We were so busy today that I didn’t even get time for lunch.”

“Then let’s enjoy a good meal.” He smiled.

He watched her place the rose in the refrigerator, pick up her purse from the counter, and walk toward him. She stopped in front of him and smiled.

“The reservation is for six-thirty, so we’d better go,” she said.

Brett couldn’t take his eyes off her. She looked beautiful.

“Yes, ma’am.” He turned to the door, opened it, and waited for her to go out. Once she did, he closed the door and watched as she locked it. Then he took her hand and led her down the stairs.

As he led her to his vehicle, he looked at her when she laughed and raised an eyebrow.

“What?”

“Your tag.Cowboy.”

He chuckled. “I’ve had that tag for years, and I am a cowboy, darlin’.”

He opened the door of his Tahoe for her, held her hand while she stepped onto the running board, and slid onto the seat. Her dress rose slightly, and he bit his cheek to avoid moaning. Damn, she had great legs. Her calves were tight and toned, and those damn shoes made them look even more so. But that rose… he wanted to kiss it.

Brett walked around the front of the vehicle, opened the driver’s door, and slid onto the seat.
