“She’s strong, and I hope the doctor will give her something. Her cough is awful.”

“Please let me know what the doctor says, Nevada.”

“I will. Sloane phoned about an hour ago, so I’ll let you know. Appreciate your call. I’m absolutely certain she’ll appreciate it.”

“Thanks. Have a great evening.”

“Yes, ma’am, you as well.” He disconnected.

JoJo threw the cellphone onto the sofa cushion. She knew Courtney was being looked after by Nevada. JoJo hoped he would let her or Sloane know how Courtney was.

The next day, she entered the bakery to see Nancy standing behind the glass cases. JoJo sighed and almost raced to her and embraced her.

“Did you miss me?” Nancy giggled.

“You have no clue.”

“I apologize. I’m only where I can stand right now and not get worn out.”

JoJo cocked her head. “Are you certain you should be here?”

Sloane remarked as she came from the kitchen, “She’s only working half a day.”

“Oh, great. You can’t do too much, Nancy. You’ll decline if you don’t give your body a break.”

“I am aware. Believe me. I’ll be glad to go home by noon.” Nancy grinned. “Rodney’s looking out for me.”

“He should,” Sloane said. “I’m delighted you’re here, but you will not stay a minute longer than what we discussed. I don’t want you to relapse.”

“I swear I’ll leave at noon. Rodney’s picking me up.”

“Wonderful. Now, let’s get to work. We open in a few minutes.” Sloane strolled into the kitchen.

As soon as they opened the door, people came in immediately. JoJo shook her head. Keeping busy caused the day to pass quickly.

Brett walked through the house and was impressed with it. He turned to look at Lydia and smiled.

“I’m sorry, Lydia.”

“Oh, please, don’t be. I’ve been a realtor for years, and I’m used to this.”

“So, I’m not the only one to drive you crazy?” He grinned.

“Far from it.” She glanced around. “This is a beautiful place.”

“Yes, it is. The windows are great here in the living room.”

The entire front wall was only glass that rose to a point, with more windows above them.

“Have a look around, Brett. I want to text Patty at the office.”

“Am I keeping you from anything?”

Lydia looked surprised. “No. I want to ask her for the code for another house I’d like to show you. It’s only a mile from here.”

“Really? Is it as nice as this?”
