“It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?” Lydia said.

“I think that’s an understatement. I’m eager to see inside.”

“Let’s go then.”

Brett followed her to the front porch and waited while she punched in a code on the lockbox to remove the key. She glanced over her shoulder at him and held up the key.

“Ready?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

She unlocked the door, shoved it open, and nodded for him to go ahead, but he shook his head.

“Ladies first.”

“Your mama raised you right.”

“Yes, she did.”

When he stepped inside the foyer, he knew this was the one. The foyer floor was slate, but from what he could see from the rest of the house, they were wide cherry plank hardwood.

“The floors in the bedrooms are the only ones carpeted.”

“No one enjoys getting out of bed and stepping onto a cold floor.”

“You speak from experience?”

“I do.” He grinned, then made his way through the house.

Like the previous house, the back wall was glass. He strolled to it to look out at the land and saw a glistening in-ground pool. He saw the house was U-shaped, and several French doors faced the pool from different rooms.

“I didn’t see where it had a pool,” Lydia muttered as she looked at the papers.

“I like this. Pool and all.”

“Oh, here it is. It’s heated too. The house is just under eight hundred thousand. The price recently dropped.”

Brett grinned. “Lucky for me.”

“Let’s look around.”

“I’m following you.”

“Four bedrooms, a den, office, five full baths, and two half. It should be easy to get to a bathroom, no matter where you are.”

Brett chuckled and then followed her to the office.

“The house has splendid views,” Lydia said.

“I like the windows. Especially in here. I’m an architect, so that the light would be great.”

“With you being an architect, I’m sure you can see how much planning went into this house.”

He looked around the room. “Yes, it was designed well.”

“What do you design, if you don’t mind my asking?”

Brett smiled. “Just homes now, but I’ve designed apartment buildings and shopping malls. I’m a design architect.” He shrugged. “I’m always busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
