“I’m ready to dance. I think I ate too much,” JoJo said once he got inside the cab.

“Me too. That food is so good. Don’t get me wrong, I love Connie’s burgers, but for a fancy meal, the Hartland is the way to go.”

“I agree. Both places are great in their ways.”

Once inside Dewey’s, they moved to the bar when they saw two available stools. JoJo climbed onto one, and Brett took the one beside her. He raised his hand, and Keith came to take their order.

She looked along the bar but didn’t see Scarlett, which was unusual. JoJo saw Laura and smiled when she saw her laugh at something Dom had said to her. It was good to see Laura happy again, and Dom adored her.

“What can I get you?” Keith asked them.

“JoJo?”

“Callahan and Coke, please, Keith.”

“Make that two. Thanks.”

Keith tapped the bar top. “I’ll be right back.”

Soon, Keith brought their drinks to them and set them on the bar. Brett paid him and waved away the change.

JoJo watched the people on the dance floor slowly dancing, but when the song ended, the band playedA Good Run of Bad Luck, a Clint Black song.

“Want to dance?” Brett asked her.

“Yes.”

Brett got off the stool, put his hand out to her, and led her to the floor. She laughed when he spun her around. He’d pull her close, turn her out, spin her, and bring her in close again. The man could dance, and she loved it.

She put her hands on his shoulders when he pulled her close, but when he dipped her, she gasped, making him laugh. She could stay on the dance floor with him all night.

She was having a wonderful time. Brett was the best date. He knew how to show a woman a good time. They danced to three more fast songs, and she felt she needed oxygen. She had trouble catching her breath once they returned to their stools.

“I have to sit out a few.” She reached for her drink.

“Wuss.”

JoJo almost spit her drink out. “Next time, tell me how many dances you plan to do while we’re out there, and I’ll get rested.”

“Deal.” He picked up his drink and sipped.

She shook her head, leaned over, and kissed him. Then she smiled and glanced around the bar. She did a double take when she swore she saw Rich but lost him in the crowd.

“What is it?”

“Nothing.” She shook her head.

“JoJo.”

She sighed. “I thought I saw Rich.”

Brett got to his feet and looked over at the crowd.

“Where?”

“By the stage, but he’s not there now. I probably imagined it. He has me on edge.”

“That’s why we came out tonight, darlin’. To have a good time and forget about him.”
