“I know.” She glanced around but didn’t see him. “I think my imagination is in overdrive.”

“I can understand that. Let’s enjoy the rest of the evening and then head home.”

“All right.”

She would give it a good try, but although she wouldn’t tell Brett, she was sure Rich was here and watching them.

Brett glanced around, but had no idea who he was looking for. He knew the little ass was here. He wished Stafford would make a move so he could confront him, but Brett was sure he wasn’t man enough to face him.

They were having a good time, and he didn’t want the night ruined. He picked up his drink and watched the crowd.

When he spotted the man, he knew it was him. Something told him it was the man scaring JoJo. Brett got to his feet. He saw Stafford staring at him. It was time to do something.

“I’ll be back. I’m going to the restroom,” Brett said.

“Okay. I’ll be here.”

Brett quickly kissed her lips and then pushed through the crowd to the restroom and down the hallway. He hoped Stafford would follow him.

As he stood at the sink, washing his hands, the door opened, and he looked into the mirror and saw Stafford enter. He looked at Brett and then walked to a urinal. Brett turned the faucet off, pulled out a few paper towels, and dried his hands. All the while, he watched Stafford walk to the sink and wash his hands. He looked into the mirror, and their eyes met. He wasn’t as tall as Brett, but he had muscles. Brett knew he thought he was every woman’s dream with his blond hair and blue eyes.

Brett watched a smirk lift his lips as he stared at him, so he raised his eyebrow.

“So, you’re the new man in JoJo’s life, huh?”

Brett faced him, folded his arms, leaned his hip against the counter, and nodded.

“I am. Do you have a problem with that?”

“No, but you might.”

“Is that so?” Brett straightened up.

“JoJo belongs to me—”

Brett laughed. “She doesn’t belong to anyone, and especially not you.”

Stafford grinned, and Brett wanted to knock it off his face. That he thought JoJo belonged to him was unreal. They’d been apart for over a year.

“You only want her because she has me now, and Iwillmarry her.”

“That will never happen,” Stafford snarled.

“Anger? Wow! You need to control your emotions.”

“Fuck you.”

“Let’s talk about this.” Brett watched him fold his arms and stare at him, and he knew the man thought he was in control.

“There’s nothing to talk about. You stay away from JoJo.”

Brett stepped forward. “Or what?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“Oh, but I do. I’m curious what will happen if I don’t.”
