Her words cause me to stiffen up, while it has been years since my dear wife died, it was also strange to know that Lila could tell my feelings for Cam were so strong. I do not know if it is love yet but it is something.

Swallowing I excuse myself, “I should go find Maisey and Cam. Please excuse me.”

As I walk away from Lila my head is a jumbled mess. Everyone thinks Cam and I are in love, which they should as we are fake engaged, but it makes my heart ache knowing that I cannot have Cam. She doesn't feel for me what I am starting to feel for her.

I make my way in the direction that Malcolm, Cam, and Maisey went off to when I see them by the small park the country club has.

Malcolm is leaning against a post talking on the phone as Cam is pushing Maisey on the swings. It is such a small moment seeing Cam and Maisey bonding and I want nothing more than to be a part of it.

Making my way towards them, I see Maisey jump off the swing and land on her hands and knees, her cries can be heard from here and I start to rush over but Cam has already gotten to Maisey’s side. Cam picks Maisey up and holds her close to her heart, whispering words into her ear. I can only imagine they are words of love and encouragement. I watch as Maisey wipes her tears away before Cam sets her down and Maisey takes off back to the swings. It feels good knowing that Maisey has Cam by her side and it also touches my heart that on Cam’s off day she is still so kind with Maisey.

What will happen once our fake engagement is called off? How will I explain this to Maisey when Cam is no longer her nanny?

These thoughts scare me. We are only setting Maisey up to be hurt in the long run and I cannot live with that. I never wantmy daughter to hurt. I want her to feel loved and cared for. And knowing that I am the one to hurt her is even worse.

I watch a little longer as Cam and Maisey play at the park before Malcolm hangs up the phone and says something to Cam before heading back inside.

Finally, I approached my daughter and her nanny.

“Hey you two, we should probably mingle a bit before dinner is served,” I say.

Maisey pouts then runs inside and Cam follows her but at a brisk walk. As Cam walks by me, I grab her arm and pull her into my arms.

Cam looks up at me with big eyes and I am drawn to them and cannot help but press our lips together. My insides twist in the best way possible as our lips collide with soft passion. Cam lets out a small breath before pulling away.

“What was that for?” Cam asks.

“We have to keep up appearances. We cannot have people thinking you’re just the nanny. You’re my fiancée, remember.”

Cam nods and we hold hands as we walk back inside.

Maisey has already found her seat at the table and I sit next to her and Cam sits to my left. The board members greet us again before dinner is finally served.

“You make a good looking family,” Zachary Yonson says as he and his partner sit across from us.

Cam blushes and tucks a strand of brown hair behind her ear.

“Thank you Zachary,” I say before looking down at Maisey who is digging into her food.

The food tastes amazing as always, the club has the best chef this side of New York City.

“This is delicious,” Cam voices after her first bite.

Lila smiles at her and informs her that the chef makes everything fresh.

Growing up in Piedmont, I know that Cam is not used to such fine dining and I want to spoil her but as I look at her and then to Maisey, my heart sinks again. Maisey and I might be getting too attached to Camdyn Schriefer.

Once dinner is over, I am no longer in the mood to mingle, so I lead Cam and Maisey towards the pool.

Maisey, eager as always, quickly undresses then jumps in. I am beyond thankful that she has a bathing suit on and that I paid for swimming lessons as soon as she turned three.

There are a few other families swimming and Cam sits with her feet in the water. I watch for a moment, wondering if I should approach the beautiful woman or not.

“Are you coming daddy?” Maisey calls out from the middle of the pool, splashing at me.

I jump back and avoid the water before taking my shoes and socks off and sitting next to Cam. I dip my toes in the water and it is pleasantly warm. A heated pool is one of the perks of the club.

“This place is fancy, isn’t it?” Cam asks as she looks at me.
