Parker walks firmly in front of me into the hotel and doesn’t hold the door open for me as he usually does.

What is going on with him? Does he not realize how serious this is?

“Parker!”

He ignores me but as we walk into the hotel, there are newspapers plastered to the walls of us. The newspapers have various headlines on them but a few words stand out.

Liars.

Posers.

Fakes.

Parker stops walking in the middle of the lobby and stares at the newspapers.

My stomach falls. Who would do this?

“Parker!” I say as I catch up to him.

“I cannot believe I fell for you,” Parker hisses at me.

I take a step back.

What is he talking about?

“Why would you say that?”

“You clearly went to the press and spilled the beans. No one else knows about this but us. Are you just that hungry for fame that you played with me and got my heart involved?”

My heart breaks at his words.

“What are you talking about? I love you.”

Parker turns towards me and gets in my face.

“You aren’t capable of love. I never want to see your face again. You’ve broken me. Get out of here!”

Parker turns and walks away from me toward the elevator.

My mouth is open as I stare after the man I love.

Why is he acting this way? What did I do?

We stare at each other as the elevator doors close. Parker’s face is cold and I know that tears are running down my cheeks. As the elevator doors close, I run to the walls and rip the newspapers down one by one as I scream.

I see flashes around me, knowing that there is paparazzi taking pictures of me just fuels me even more. I am broken and I cannot stand to see these articles full of lies. We may have started off faking this relationship but I really did fall for Parker.

“Ms. Schriefer, what can you tell me about your fake relationship?” A small lady with a recording device asks as she approaches me.

I look at her with her perfectly quaffed hair and realize that I don’t belong in this world. I don’t want to be the center of attention. I don’t want my picture to be on the front of papers. I just want to be me.

With that realization, it hits me that I need to leave here. Now.

There is only one place left for me to go.

Back to Piedmont.
