“What happened?” I ask no one in particular.

“You passed out Ms. Cam,” I hear Tobi saying from next to me.

I look towards Tobi and see him licking an ice cream cone.

“Where did you get that?”

Tobi points in front of us to where I see Parker talking to a police officer. Parker and I make eye contact and he smiles at me. He says something to the cop before approaching Tobi and I.

Parker gets down on his knees so he is at eye level with me.

“How are you feeling?”

Looking up at Parker, I see how beautiful he looks in the sunlight. He looks like an angel. My guardian angel.

“What happened?” I answer.

“You fainted from all the drama. It must have just been too much for you. I called an ambulance and they are on the way. Do you feel alright?”

Nodding, I sat up, “I should call Tobi’s parents.”

Parker nods, “I was just talking to the police and reporting what happened. I think after Tobi is picked up you should return to New York City with me. We’ve got a lot to talk about.”

Nodding, I call Mr. Miller, explaining everything.

The next hour passes by slowly. The ambulance shows up and takes my vitals before saying that I must have just fainted from all the action going on around me. They leave just as Tobi’s father shows up. Tobi runs into his dads arms and Mr. Miller hands me a one hundred dollar bill before telling me that I’m fired. The entire time Parker watches from afar, never taking his eyes off of me.

Once everyone has left the park, Parker approaches me.

He sits next to me on the bench and we sit in silence.

I don’t know how to break the tension so I lay my head down on his shoulder. Parker lays his down on top of mine and we sit together for a few moments in silence. Just comforting each other with our breathing.

Parker is the first one to break the silence, “I’m sorry.”

“For what?” I ask, sitting up and facing him.

It is like seeing him for the first time. He looks so young even though he is much older than I am. His hair is pushed back from his face but he is wearing a scowl.

“For everything I said in Niagara Falls. I was a fool to believe that you told the press.” Parker takes my hand in his.

He is right. He was a fool but I forgave him the moment I heard his voice today. But something he says startles me.

“Who told the press then?”

Parker’s eyebrows raise, “It appears it was Johnny. Did you happen to keep a journal at your old apartment?”

The question hits me right in the chest. I did. I completely overlooked that. I hadn’t written in it since right after Parker and I started this fake relationship. It felt weird writing about things that were all fake.

“I did, what’s that got to do with this?”

“Well, they found the notebook under some things and pages were torn out. Those were the pages that Johnny gave to the press.”

My mouth falls open. That makes complete sense.

“So, they know Johnny broke in?”

“Yes, they are looking for him now, which is what I was telling the police about. They think he is dangerous, especially now that he has crossed state lines.”
