A shiver runs down my spine.
Johnny broke into my apartment, trashed it, and then leaked private pages of my journal to the press.
He is a man obsessed and not in a good way.
“Why would he do this?” I ask aloud, even though I know the answer.
“Because he wants you all to himself but I won’t let him touch you. You are safe with me. Speaking of, my private jet is at the nearest airport, I think it's time you come home.”
“Really?”
“Of course. I was a fool to let you go and I refuse to make that mistake twice, you’ll be safer with me. The penthouse is in a locked complex and with me by your side there is no way Johnny would risk anything. He may come off as a tough guy but he is all show.”
Parker is right but also wrong. Johnny is all show when it comes to other guys but when it comes to me he isn’t afraid to use force.
“Let’s get out of here,” I say and together we make our way to Parker’s driver’s car.
During the ride to the airport, Parker fills me in on all things Maisey. Apparently she was crushed when I left which made for an awkward silence but I’ve forgiven Parker and I hope he can forgive me for leaving and not fighting for him.

We make it to the penthouse and knock on Mrs. Connelley’s door. She answers and Maisey is peaking out from behind her.
“Mommy!” Maisey yells out as soon as our eyes meet.
My heart melts at seeing the little girl.
“Never leave us again!”
“I won’t babygirl. I promise,” And I mean it. Nothing is going to tear me away from the Madison’s ever again.
“Why don’t you gather your stuff and we’ll get you home just in time for bedtime?”
Maisey runs back inside and is back in a flash. We head to the penthouse and read Maisey three books before we finally decide it's time she goes to bed.
“Can mommy stay until I fall asleep?”
Parker looks at me and I smile at both of them.
“Of course I can sweetie.”
I sit on the floor next to Maisey’s bed as Parker leaves the room but he blows me a kiss as he goes.
Maisey turns toward me “Where were you?”
I raise my eyebrows at her but I know what she is asking for, “Daddy and I were not in a good place and there was a misunderstanding.”
Maisey blinks at me and her eyes start to water.
“I thought you left us.”
My eyes water as well. In my broken haze, I never thought of how much this would affect Maisey. I knew she would be hurt but I didn’t imagine just how much.
“I promise I will never leave again, now try to sleep. I’ll be here bright and early to wake you up.”
“Okay mommy, I love you.”
“I love you too Maisey.”
