Maisey turns onto her back and falls asleep shortly after our exchange. My heart feels full as I watch her sleep. This little girl means the world to me and so does her father.

Once I hear her soft snores getting deeper, I sneak out of her room.

I stop in the hallway, wondering if I should go to Parker’s room or to my own.

Uncertainty wins over and I head to my room.

As I get to the closed door, I see light underneath.

Slowly, I open the door and see Parker lying asleep on my bed.

I clear my throat and he rubs his eyes as he awakens.

“Hey,” Parker says gruffly. “I was just waiting for you.

I smile.

“You can go back to sleep, but I will be joining you.”

Parker chuckles and opens the covers for me. I join him and we cuddle in silence until our breathing evens out and we fall asleep together. As one.

Chapter 24 - Parker Madison

We are finally a family.

Maisey, Cam and I have been together as a family for over a month together. Cam watches Maisey while I am at work and then we spend the evenings and weekends together. It has been working magically for all of us.

“Daddy can we go for a walk?” Maisey asks one Saturday morning.

I glance at the clock and see that we have just over an hour until lunch time so a walk is feasible.

“Of course sweetie, go see if Cam wants to join us.”

“Mommy! We’re going for a walk!” I hear Maisey yelling as she runs into Cam’s bedroom where she is changing after Maisey spilled some milk on her.

I chuckle to myself, loving how close our little family has gotten. It is like we truly are family now.

I changed the channel from the kids show Maisey is having me watch to the news. It seems like terrible things are happening in the world but I am thankful that all the badness is behind Cam and I. We are starting a new chapter and being together forever has been on my mind.

Feeling the box in my pocket, I wonder when a good time to pop the question will be. I was planning on making a family dinner tonight but I also feel like taking Cam somewhere nice and expensive.

“Daddy! Are you ready?” Maisey shouts in my ear.

“Maisey, what did I say about yelling when you are next to someone?”

“Don’t do it,” Maisy pouts.

“Come on Parker, she is just excited,” Cam says as she steps into my line of view.

She looks extra yummy today in skinny blue jeans and a crochet white top. It is starting to get cooler out so I grab a light jacket before we head out.

Central Park is a bit away so we have the driver take us there and then we walk around the park. Maisey runs around as if she is on five cups of coffee and Cam and I hold hands as we watch her.

It feels like everyday with these two is just getting better and better.

Turning toward my love, I start to speak, “Cam, I know we have had our ups and downs but…”

A loud bang sounds and a sharp pain hits me in the back of the shoulder as I fall to the ground.
