‘That’s not how it’s meant to feel.’

‘Think the other three will do the same?’

‘Probably.’

FOURTEEN

CALEB

Faith Novak is a bright, cute free spirit I met over frozen yoghurt just outside our client’s San Francisco office, where she works as a developer. She is sharp and funny as hell, and even though she dresses like a Sunday school teacher, underneath that misleading exterior is all porn star – which is why I never leave SF without a little hello. I’ve been looking forward to tonight since I landed a few days ago. Now she’s standing in front of me in nothing but a thong, she’s never been sexier. I take my time to appreciate her outfit, or lack thereof.

‘I know what you’re doing. I give in.’ She approaches, climbing over me into a kiss.

‘What am I doing?’ I chuckle.

‘You want me to make the first move. It worked.’ Her lips are persistent.

‘I didn’t, actually.’

‘So, what’s taking you so long? It’s not like you’re waiting for an emotional connection.’

Her hands are on my shirt buttons and making quick work of them.

‘Maybe I am,’ I joke.

‘That’s Hunter’s territory. Yours is to make me shudder…and you’re later than usual, MrBlack.’

Her hand slides over my thighs.

‘Hunter? Your gardener?’

She stops and explodes with laughter. ‘Hunter is my partner, not my gardener. How much do you think I make?’

‘Wait, what? You’ve been cheating on your boyfriend with me?’ I move away. She sits up, concerned.

‘I’m not cheating. We’re polyamorous. He dropped me off tonight.’

She gently kisses my neck and I move further away.

‘What’s wrong?’

‘You have a boyfriend.’ I’m aware of my hypocrisy. Mel is hardly single.

‘Who doesn’t have a problem with this. I’m not getting all sensitive about you fooling around with Lisa in legal.’

She closes her eyes, and takes a deep breath. ‘Caleb, nothing’s changed. I’ve been dying to see you.’

‘I’m sorry. I can’t. I feel like I’ve been in the middle of a relationship that no one told me about.’

‘But Ididtell you about Hunter. Besides, it changes nothing. You’re still…’

‘The guy who makes you shudder.’

She shrugs.

‘I’m sorry, Faith. I can’t do this with you tonight.’

‘But you’re leaving tomorrow,’ she pleads.
